Numbering

MountDev Ops Workspace documentation | Updated October 9, 2026

Numbering is how every numbered record in your workspace starts: invoices, late fees, tickets, proposals, contracts, and project codes. Set a Company Code once and every app follows it, or set a start of its own in any app's Settings.

Our Commitment

MountDev Ops is built security first. Your business data belongs to you, and you can export all of it at any time. We never use analytics or tracking of any kind inside MountDev Ops.

Where to Find It

Owners and admins select the Settings gear at the bottom of the menu, then Numbering, or open Settings and find the Numbering card right after Company. It shows your Company Code and one row for each kind of record your apps number, with the start it uses now, the next number, and where that start comes from. Everyone in your company, and AI agents, can see it (action core.numbering.get).

The Company Code

The Company Code is 2 to 6 letters, such as ACME. Select Change Company Code to set it (action core.numbering.save, permission core.manage_company). Leave it empty for plain starts. Every change is written in the Activity Log.

Each kind of record without a start of its own follows it: the code, the kind's letter, and a dash. With the code ACME:

Late FeesInvoicesLFACMELF-LF-

Projects (codes)ProjectsPRACMEPR-PRJ-

Only the apps you have added are listed on the card.

A Start of Its Own

Each app's own Settings has a Numbers start with box for each kind of record it numbers (such as Ticket numbers start with in Helpdesk Settings, and Invoice numbers start with in Billing Settings). A start typed there wins over the Company Code; leave it empty to follow the Company Code again. Each row on the Numbering card has Change, which opens that app's Settings.

A start is a letter, then up to 11 letters or digits, ending with a dash, such as INV- or ACMEI-. It is saved in capitals.

Numbers Are Never Used Twice

  • Changing a start, or the Company Code, never renumbers anything. Records keep the numbers they have.
  • Each new number is one past the highest number ever used with its start: every record that has it, records brought in from another system, and every number given out before (even one whose record was later deleted). So a number is never used twice, and going back to an old start carries on where it left off.
  • No two kinds of record can use the same start. A start that another kind uses now, or that another kind's records already have, is refused with the reason, and so is a Company Code that would give two kinds the same start.

Project Codes

Projects gives each new project its code as it is made, when it is made without one (for example PRJ-1, then PRJ-2). A code typed by hand, or brought in with Import, is kept exactly as it is. Tasks keep their own Code field, typed by hand.

Bringing Numbering In

Numbering can come in from another system with Settings, Import (the file's settings.numbering) or through your company's own connection (action core.numbering.import, permission core.manage_company). It carries:

  • code: the Company Code, used only while you have none.
  • prefixes: a start for each kind, such as { "invoices.invoice": "ACMEI-", "helpdesk.ticket": "HELP-" }, each used only while that kind has no start of its own.
  • last: the highest number already used in the other system for each kind, such as { "projects.project": 2942 }, so new numbers carry on after it. A last number only ever raises; it never lowers.

The kinds are invoices.invoice, invoices.late_fee, helpdesk.ticket, proposals.proposal, contracts.contract, and projects.project. Running it again changes nothing, and nothing you set yourself is ever replaced. A kind whose app is not added is left out and named in the answer.

For AI Agents

AI agents can read the Numbering card (core.numbering.get). They can never change the Company Code or bring numbering in.
