Sharing Your Company with People Who Have More Than One

MountDev Ops Workspace documentation | Updated November 7, 2026
Our Commitment MountDev Ops is built security first. Your business data belongs to you, and you can export all of it at any time. We never use analytics or tracking of any kind inside MountDev Ops.
One login opens any number of companies. An owner with two businesses, an employee shared between companies, a contractor, a bookkeeper, an agency, a partner, or someone helping you for a day: each has one login, and each company they belong to appears in their own company list. Nobody needs a company of their own.
This is the same for every person and every role. No kind of person is a special case.
Adding Someone
Open Staff and choose Add Person (action core.members.invite). Type their email address, choose their role, and choose how long: ongoing, or ending on a date and time you pick. You can also allow them to add and remove people.
- If the person already has a login, they keep it and accept the invitation from their company list, under Waiting For You.
- If they do not have one, they create it when they accept.
- The screen never says whether an address already has a login.
- Nothing opens until the person accepts. Until then they are not a person of your company, and they do not appear in your people.
Adding, changing, and removing people is a permission like any other: "Add, change, and remove the people who have access" (core.manage_members). Owners and admins have it, and an owner can give it to anyone. Only an owner can add another owner, change an owner's role, or give the permission to someone. AI agents and API keys never add or remove people.
Your Company List
Everyone sees one list of every company they can open (the company name under the greeting, and Workspaces in the Account menu), each with their role there, when that access ends if it does, and a small label with where its data is kept (for example United States; a preferred location also says Preferred, not guaranteed). Switching is one click, and the switcher only opens companies. A waiting invitation there has a green check to accept and a red X to decline, and each asks you to confirm first. Switching never carries data or a sign-in from one company to another: each company opens on its own, from its own region.
The list is built when the person signs in, by asking each region's own lookup which companies hold their address. Nothing about it is kept in a shared place.
A company sees only its own people and their roles here. It never sees which other companies a person belongs to.
Adding a Company
Add a Company, under the companies in your list, makes a new company of your own without signing out. It has the same steps as signing up, in a pop up:
- Name Your Company. You will be its owner, and you can invite people once it is made.
- Where Should Your Data Live? The region card has two groups, Supported Regions and Preferred Locations, each region on its own row. Only a region that is open can be chosen; the others show Coming Soon. See Data Region for what each means.
- For a preferred location only: four boxes to check before Continue turns on. Each check is saved in the new company with who checked it, when, and its exact wording, and written to its Activity Log.
Create Company makes the company in the region you chose, with you as its owner, and opens it in place. It starts empty: nothing is copied from the company you were in. It joins your company list at once, and its Activity Log says who made it and where its data lives. A company's region never changes with a setting; only a planned move changes it.
Add a Company shows only while your provider has it turned on for your account (see Turning It On), and not while your account is closed.
Ongoing or Temporary
Any access can have an end date and time. When it passes, the access ends by itself: the person's open screens in your company stop at their next request, the company leaves their list, and the end is written in your Activity Log. Nobody has to remove them. Temporary support access is access with an end time. Partner access is access tied to a partner relationship. Nothing is deleted when access ends: the person's name stays on what they did.
An owner with an end date is never ended while they are the only owner.
Seeing and Controlling Access
Staff shows everyone with access, their role, when access ends, and when they last used it (action core.members.list). People who may manage also see invitations waiting to be accepted.
- Change Role changes a person's role or the permission to add and remove people (
core.members.set_role). - Remove ends a person's access at once (
core.members.remove). It is the same Remove Access every company has. - Cancel Invitation takes back an invitation that was not accepted (
core.members.cancel). - Leave is in a person's own company list (
core.members.leave). It ends their access right away. The only owner of a company cannot leave until someone else is an owner.
When someone belongs to no company, they see a screen that says so, with the invitations waiting for them and a way to sign out. They do not need a company of their own.
What Is in Your Activity Log
Every invitation, acceptance, role change, removal, end of access, and sign-in into your company is in your own Activity Log.
What Is Kept and Where
Your company keeps its own memberships: the address, the role, when access starts and ends, who added the person, and when they last used it. They are kept in your workspace, in your data region. The person's login keeps only which companies they can open. A region's sign-in lookup holds a one-way scrambled form of an address and the company it opens, and nothing else. Being in several companies never copies any data between them.
Turning It On
Shared company access is off until your provider turns it on for your account. Until then the company list, Staff, and sign-in work as they always have. Add a Company is turned on separately, the same way.
