Hold a meeting by video right in the browser, on a computer or a phone, with your team and with guests who need no account. Video meetings run in Telnyx Video Rooms, through your company's own Telnyx account.
Setting It Up
Video meetings use your company's one Telnyx connection, the same one any other app uses. An owner or admin connects it once in Settings, Connections, Connected Services: Connect a Service, then Telnyx (Connected Services). Its card there shows the webhook address Telnyx sends video updates to; video meetings use it on their own. Your Telnyx account bills you directly for the video minutes you use. Meetings Settings shows whether video meetings are on.
Starting or Joining
On a meeting's page, Start Video Meeting opens the meeting screen over the page (action meetings.video.join). Once it is on, the button says Join Video Meeting. Each meeting has one video room, used every time it meets.
Before you join, the screen shows your camera, with Mute and Camera Off to set how you come in, and a notice when the meeting is recorded. Your browser asks once to use your camera and microphone. Without them you can still join to watch and listen.
In the meeting:
- Mute and Unmute, Camera Off and Camera On.
- Share Screen shows your screen (or one window) to everyone; Stop Sharing ends it. Phones cannot share their screen from the browser.
- People lists everyone in the meeting.
- Leave takes you out. The meeting goes on for the others.
- Esc closes the People list, or asks whether to leave.
Your place in the meeting is renewed every few minutes while you are in it (action meetings.video.refresh), and the screen checks whether the meeting is recorded (action meetings.video.state).
Hosts
Anyone who may change the meeting is a host (Owners, admins, Managers, and the Team member who owns it). Hosts also have:
- Record and Stop Recording (action
meetings.video.record), after a confirmation. - Mute and Remove beside each person in People (action
meetings.video.moderate). A muted person can unmute themselves; a removed person leaves at once. - End for Everyone (action
meetings.video.moderate), after a confirmation.
Viewers can join and watch, and cannot record, mute, remove, or end.
Guests
The Video Meeting card on the meeting's page gives hosts the guest link to send to the people they invite, such as your CRM contacts (action meetings.video.get). A guest opens it in their browser, types their name, and joins. They need no account and see only the meeting's video: never its notes, files, or anything else in your workspace.
- Turn Off Guest Link stops it at once: nobody new can join with it, and guests already inside drop out within 10 minutes (remove them to end it sooner). Turn On Guest Link brings the same link back (action
meetings.video.guests). - New Link makes a new link and stops the old one for good.
Send the link only to the people you invite: anyone who has it can join while it is on.
Recording
A meeting is recorded only when a host turns recording on. While it is, everyone in the meeting, guests included, sees Recording at the top and the notice "This meeting is recorded. Everyone in it sees this notice." People joining see "This meeting is recorded. By joining, you agree to be recorded." before they join. Check the recording laws where you and your guests are: some places need everyone's agreement.
After the meeting, Telnyx puts the recording together as one video, and it is saved on the meeting as "Video meeting <date and time>.mp4", where it plays like any uploaded recording, beside its transcript (Recordings and Transcripts). It is encrypted with your company's own key like every file, and Telnyx's copies are then deleted. This usually takes a few minutes after the meeting ends; the Video Meeting card shows "Recording: being prepared by Telnyx" until then.
The Video Meeting Card
The card shows whether the video is on now, and each time people met: when, how many people, the participant minutes, and whether it was recorded and where the recording is.
Usage
Each meeting's participant minutes, each person's time in it rounded up to the minute and added together, count once in Usage as video meeting minutes when the meeting ends (Usage). A 30 minute meeting with three people is 90 participant minutes.
Works Everywhere
The meeting screen works in current versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and Safari, on computers, tablets, and phones, by touch, mouse, or keyboard. On a phone, the People list covers the screen, and the buttons wrap to fit.
For AI Agents
An AI agent can see whether a meeting's video is on and recorded, its past meetings, and their minutes (meetings.meeting.get, meetings.video.state). It can never start, join, or end a video meeting, record it, mute or remove anyone, or see or change the guest link.
