Add code to your own website: analytics, ad pixels, chat widgets, and verification tags. Owners, admins, and anyone whose role allows code can add, change, and turn on snippets.
Where a Snippet Runs
- Only in your visitors' browsers, on your own website.
- Never on sign-in pages, the Client Portal, or checkout pages. You cannot choose such a page.
- Never in your workspace. The preview and the page builder show nothing from a snippet.
- Never on a server.
Adding One
- See the code snippets (action
sites.snippet.list) and see one code snippet (actionsites.snippet.get). - Add a code snippet, or change one (action
sites.snippet.save): a name, where it goes (in the head, at the start of the body, or at the end of the body), every page or the pages you choose, and the code. Saving says plainly that the code runs on your live website and asks you to confirm. Paste only the snippet, never a whole page or server code. - Turn a code snippet on or off (action
sites.snippet.set): off stops it at once. Turning it on asks you to confirm again. - See the versions of a code snippet (action
sites.snippet.versions) and restore an earlier version (actionsites.snippet.restore): a restore is a new version, so nothing is lost. - Remove a code snippet, or bring it back (action
sites.snippet.remove): it turns off and is kept with its versions.
A snippet that is on is part of your live website the moment you save it, not at the next publish.
Assistants
An assistant with the permission can save a snippet, but it is saved as a draft and stays off. Publish a draft code snippet (action sites.snippet.publish) is a person's step: an assistant cannot turn one on or publish it, or change one that is on.
Custom HTML
A Custom HTML block puts code in one place on a page. Like a snippet, it is never drawn on a sign-in, Client Portal, checkout, or account page; those show a placeholder instead. It needs the same permission, an assistant never adds one, and it is left out of saved sections and templates.
