Exempt from Retention

Part of the MountDev Ops Files documentation. Updated October 28, 2026

MountDev Ops Files documentation | Updated October 28, 2026

Mark a folder Exempt from Retention and data retention never removes it or anything in it: its folders, its files, and anything added or moved into it later.

Marking a Folder Exempt

Open the folder and select Retention. Check Exempt from Retention, then select Save. The folder's page then says Exempt from Retention at the top, for everyone who can see the folder. To take the mark off, open Retention again and uncheck it.

Only owners see Retention and can change it, on their own screen: never admins, AI agents, assistants, or API keys. Each change is in the Activity Log with who made it. For a private folder the line names no folder.

Seeing whether a folder is exempt is action core.files.retention.get, and changing it is core.files.retention.set.

Folders Inside an Exempt Folder

Every folder inside an exempt folder is exempt too, however deep. Moving a folder or a file into an exempt folder makes it exempt at once, and moving it out ends that, unless the place it moves to is exempt as well. The Retention window says when a folder is exempt because of a folder above it.

What It Covers

Exempt from Retention holds back data retention: removing old records and files after the periods your policies set. It does not stop people. Deleting a file or a folder still puts it in Trash, as always, and files your company asks to have removed for good are still removed. Moving a folder out of an exempt folder ends its exemption.
