Sage alternative
The Sage Alternative, Run for You
Sage gives you accounting software and leaves the setup to you. Zoho Books can do the same work, but someone still has to structure the chart of accounts, connect the bank feeds, and build reports you will read. Managed Zoho Books hands that to us for a monthly fee: invoicing and recurring billing configured, feeds reconciled with rules that hold, and integrations repaired before month end goes sideways.
With Cascadia you get
- Feeds watched, not assumed
- Rules that match your ledger
- API work where settings stop
- Reports built around your questions
- Your Zoho account, your ledger
- Replies within two business days

Inside the Monthly Management Fee
Plans start at $250 a month and cover up to 2 Zoho Books organizations and 15 users. Plans differ in monthly hours and a few extras, never in which of these jobs we will take on. Your Zoho Books license is billed by Zoho and sits outside our fee.
- Sales tax and compliance configuration
- Multi-currency and multi-branch setup
- Invoice and estimate template design
- Recurring billing and payment reminders
- Payment gateway setup
- Collections and customer statements
- Bank and card feed connections
- Reconciliation rules and categorization
- Expense capture and receipt handling
- Vendor bills and payment runs
Where Our Team Picks up the Slack
Accounting software rarely fails loudly. A feed quietly stops, a rule goes stale after a new vendor appears, and the first symptom is a month end that will not balance.
A Person Checks the Feeds
When a bank changes how it authenticates, imports can halt without any error on screen. We look at feed status on every connected account and reconnect it, so you are not retyping three weeks of transactions.
Rules Rewritten as the Business Shifts
A new supplier, a second location, or a different card changes where spending belongs. We update categorization rules when that happens instead of leaving the first draft in place for years.
Code When Settings Run Out
Some needs sit beyond the menus: approval steps your finance lead insists on, invoices created from another system, or data sent to a tool Zoho Books does not reach natively. We build that through the API.
A Straight Answer When Sage Fits
If you want one low-cost login, payroll bundled with your accounting, and you enjoy configuring software yourself, Sage may suit you better. We would rather say so on the first call than win the wrong client.
Who Should Read This Comparison
Owners Weighing Sage Against a Managed Zoho Setup
You are comparing a software subscription with a service that runs the software. Those are different purchases, and this page lays out where the money and the effort go in each.
Teams Already Living in Zoho CRM or Inventory
When the pipeline sits in one tool and the stock in another, the same sale gets keyed in twice. Books connected to the rest of Zoho removes that duplicate entry.
Companies with a bookkeeper who is tired of cleanup
Your CPA spends billable hours fixing miscoded lines and missing feeds. A tidy setup turns that into review work.
Choose Sage if
- You want to configure the books yourself
- A low-cost software subscription is the priority
- You have a bookkeeper who enjoys maintaining the setup
Choose Cascadia if
- Bank feeds stop importing and nobody notices
- You want rules, reports, and integrations kept up for you
- You want monthly terms and to keep everything we build
How a Move from Sage Runs
Whether you are leaving Sage or starting fresh, the sequence stays the same. Understand the money first, then build, then keep it running.
- 1
We Assess What You Run Today
We read your Sage chart of accounts, open invoices, and bills, and note which parts cause trouble now, such as duplicate customers or accounts nobody uses.
- 2
We Map How Your Money Moves
Before anything is built, we sketch how sales, bills, payroll, and tax flow. If a structure you want will cause pain at close, you hear it here, not after your first month end.
- 3
We Build the Structure and Connect Feeds
Accounts, templates, tax settings, and bank feeds go in and get tested. Books that go live untested produce confident, wrong reports, which is worse than none. A migration from another system is quoted as a separate project.
- 4
We Go Live and Keep It Running
You get permissions already sorted, CRM, Inventory, payroll, and payment gateways connected, and reports arriving on schedule. After that we handle changes month to month.
How Sage Works
Questions to Put to Sage
Sage publishes its own plans and prices by region, and they change. We have not quoted them here, so read the current figures on Sage's own site and ask the questions below before you compare.
We could not read Sage's own pricing pages when we wrote this, so no Sage figures appear here.

Sage Alternative Questions
Straight answers about switching, pricing, and what moves with you.
See Managed Zoho BooksStill have a question?
How is Cascadia different from Sage?
Sage is a software subscription. Cascadia is a service that runs Zoho Books for you. We structure your accounts, connect the feeds, keep reconciliation rules current, and build reports. You still pay Zoho for the software license separately.
Is this cheaper than Sage?
Probably not on price alone. Our plans start at $250 a month plus your Zoho Books license, and Sage sells a software subscription by itself. We do not quote Sage's prices here because we could not read them from Sage's own pages. The comparison that matters is what your own time or your bookkeeper's time costs.
What exactly do I pay you for?
The monthly fee covers management of up to 2 Zoho Books organizations and 15 users. Inside that we handle configuration changes, template updates, bank feed repairs, reconciliation rules, report builds, integration upkeep, and permissions. Larger pieces such as a migration or a custom API build are quoted as projects.
Can you move our books out of Sage?
Yes. We map your Sage chart of accounts, bring across customers, vendors, items, open invoices, and bills, and tie the result to your closing balances before you rely on it. It is scoped as a separate project because the effort depends on how clean the source data is, and we give a realistic timeline up front.
Do I still need my own Zoho Books license?
Yes. You own the Zoho Books subscription, the account, and all the data in it. We work inside as an administrator. If you ever leave us, nothing sits behind our accounts, and the structure, templates, rules, and integrations we built stay with you.
Do you do our bookkeeping or file our taxes?
No. We manage the system, not your books. We do not act as your accountant or bookkeeper and we do not file taxes. Most clients keep their existing CPA, and we coordinate with that person directly when needed.
What if payroll is the reason we use Sage?
Then weigh it honestly. Sage can bundle payroll with its accounting plans, depending on region and plan, so confirm that on Sage's site. With Zoho Books we connect your payroll tool to the ledger instead of bundling it, which suits companies already happy with their payroll provider.
Who watches the bank feeds with Sage?
With software alone, you or your bookkeeper do. Feeds can stop importing when a bank changes its authentication, and nobody notices until reconciliation fails. On our service we monitor feed status on every connected account and reconnect them, so a stalled feed is something you hear about from us.
Is there a contract or minimum term?
No. The subscription is monthly with no long-term commitment. You can cancel any time, and the service runs to the last business day of that month. Because everything lives in your Zoho account, you keep every rule and template we built.
How long does onboarding take?
Most setups are running within two to four weeks. The first stage covers access, a review of how you invoice and get paid, and bank feeds. The second covers the chart of accounts, templates, recurring billing, tax configuration, and reporting. A migration from Sage takes longer.
Can you fix a Zoho Books setup someone else built?
Yes, and it is a common starting point. We audit the setup, trace where numbers stop making sense, and look for broken feeds, duplicate accounts, half-finished integrations, and stale rules. We tell you whether repair or a clean rebuild is faster, with reasoning, before doing either.
Which Zoho apps can Books connect to?
We connect Books to Zoho CRM and Inventory, your payroll tool, and your payment gateways, plus outside systems through the API where a native link does not exist. The aim is that one sale is entered once, not retyped in each tool.
How fast do you reply when something breaks?
We reply within two business days. For a broken feed or a failed integration, include the account name and what you last saw importing so we can start from facts instead of guesses.
When should we stay with Sage?
Stay if your books are simple, one person handles them happily, and you want bundled payroll at the lowest software price. Our service earns its fee when feeds, rules, integrations, and reports are consuming hours that someone should not be spending.
How do I get started?
Start with a consultation. We review how you invoice, how money comes in, what your accountant needs at year end, and where your financial data lives now, then recommend a plan. Anything bigger than your monthly hours is quoted as a project at your plan's project discount.
