Where Volume Pricing Starts to Bite

A percentage of billing volume is an elegant model until billing volume grows faster than your need for a billing tool.

The Fee Rises with Revenue

Stripe lists pay as you go at 0.7 percent of Billing volume (October 2026). On a million dollars a month, that is $7,000 before payment fees. Our fee does not move with volume.

Fixed Tiers Jump

The annual contract paid monthly runs $620 for up to $100,000 of monthly volume, then $1,500, $2,950, and $5,750, with 0.67 percent above each ceiling (October 2026). Crossing a ceiling changes the bill.

Someone Still Has to Build It

Stripe Billing gives you the parts: Smart Retries, a customer portal, quotes, and subscription schedules (October 2026). Assembling and maintaining them is a development job, or ours.

A Fair Word for Stripe

For a software company already on Stripe, with developers who like APIs and a usage metering need of up to 100 million events a month, Stripe Billing is a sound choice (October 2026).

Who Pays More as Volume Grows

Businesses with Growing Volume

At 0.7 percent, doubling your volume doubles the fee (October 2026). A flat monthly figure is far easier to forecast as the business grows.

Teams Without Developers

Stripe Billing is configured by code and dashboard settings. Zoho Billing is configured by screens, and we do all of the configuring for you.

Firms Wanting Billing and Books

Zoho Billing sits in a suite with Books and CRM. Stripe Billing covers billing and collection only, so you connect the books on your own.

Choose Stripe Billing if

  • Your product is software with developers on staff
  • You need heavy usage metering or Stripe native tools
  • Volume is small, so 0.7% stays cheap

Choose Cascadia if

  • You want invoicing, books, and CRM in one suite
  • No one on staff wants to maintain billing code
  • You prefer a flat monthly fee as volume grows

How a Move from Stripe Billing Runs

  1. 1

    Export the Subscription Picture

We list customers, plans, prices, coupons, and billing dates from Stripe. Plans nobody has bought in a year are not carried over.

  2. 2

    Decide Where Payments Run

Stripe can stay as your payment gateway while Zoho Billing runs the invoicing. Keeping saved cards where they are avoids asking customers to re-enter them.

  3. 3

Rebuild and Test the Billing Run

We rebuild plans, proration, and tax settings in Zoho Billing, then run test invoices through a cycle and compare totals against Stripe.

  4. 4

    Switch at a Renewal Boundary

Subscriptions move at the start of a billing period so no customer is billed twice or skipped. Stripe stays active until its last invoice has settled.

How Stripe Billing Works

Stripe Billing Prices and Retry Rules

Stripe sells Billing as a percentage of volume or as fixed monthly tiers. Every figure below was read from its own pages in October 2026.

Pay as you go is 0.7% of Billing volume (October 2026)It counts Billing transactions processed on and off Stripe, excludes one off invoices, and carries no recurring fee.
Fixed tiers run $620 to $5,750 a month (October 2026)$620 covers up to $100,000 of monthly volume, $1,500 up to $250,000, $2,950 up to $500,000, and $5,750 up to $1,000,000, each on a one year contract with 0.67% above the ceiling.
Card and bank payments are priced separately (October 2026)Card charges are 2.9% plus 30 cents each, and ACH debit is 0.8% capped at $5.00.

See Managed Zoho Billing

Still have a question?

How does Stripe Billing charge on pay as you go?

At 0.7 percent of Billing volume, counting Billing transactions processed on and off Stripe, with no recurring fee (October 2026). One off invoices are excluded. Payment processing is billed separately.

What are the fixed Stripe Billing tiers?

$620 a month for up to $100,000 of monthly volume, $1,500 up to $250,000, $2,950 up to $500,000, and $5,750 up to $1,000,000 (October 2026). Each is a one year contract paid monthly, with 0.67 percent charged on volume above the ceiling.

What happens above $1,000,000 a month?

The page lists the tier but shows no price, and offers custom pricing for large volume or unusual models via sales (October 2026). Ask for a written quote.

What does Stripe charge for card payments?

2.9 percent plus 30 cents per successful card charge, and 0.8 percent for ACH debit with a $5.00 cap (October 2026). That is on top of the Billing fee.

How do Smart Retries work?

They use a model to pick retry times. The recommended default is 8 tries within 2 weeks, and you can set the window from 1 week to 2 months (October 2026). A custom schedule offers up to three retries instead.

Does Stripe retry every failed card?

No. Hard decline codes, including lost, stolen, and incorrect number, are not retried until a new payment method arrives (October 2026). Retries also skip India issued cards.

What happens when every retry fails?

Stripe lets you cancel the subscription, mark it unpaid, leave it past due, or pause it (October 2026). Choose deliberately, because the default affects revenue reports and access.

Is the Stripe customer portal included?

Yes, included, with $10 a month for a custom domain (October 2026). Zoho Billing has a customer portal as well, which we configure and brand for you.

Can Zoho Billing do usage based pricing?

Yes, we set up metered billing rules. Stripe lists basic usage billing of up to 100 million events a month included (October 2026), which suits extreme event volumes better than we would claim to.

Can we keep Stripe as our payment gateway?

Yes. Zoho Billing connects to Stripe as a gateway, so you can run invoicing in Zoho and keep processing on Stripe. Saved cards stay where they are, and customers re-enter nothing.

Is Stripe cheaper than your service?

At low volume, yes. 0.7 percent of $20,000 a month is $140 (October 2026), less than our plans, which start at $250 a month. The picture reverses as volume grows or when you count build hours.

What does the monthly fee cover?

Plans and price books, trials and coupons, retry and reminder timing, tax, the gateway link, daily failed charge monitoring, and revenue and churn reports. Your Zoho licenses are billed to you by Zoho.

How do you avoid billing customers twice during a move?

We switch each subscription at the start of a billing period and run test invoices first. Stripe stays active until its last invoice has settled, and we compare totals before the cut.

Can we cancel with you any time?

Yes. We run month to month, and service ends on the last business day of the month you cancel in. Stripe's fixed tiers run a one year contract (October 2026). The setup lives in your Zoho account.
