The Looker Studio Alternative When Dashboards Keep Breaking

Google's Looker Studio, which its documentation now calls Data Studio, is free to use and connects to Google products and third-party connectors. What it does not do is keep the connectors alive, settle what a metric means, or explain a number that changed. Managed Zoho Analytics starts at $250 a month, and we run the connections, definitions, and fixes.

With Cascadia you get

  • Someone watching your syncs
  • One definition per metric
  • SQL where the builder stops
  • Built around the decision
  • Your account, your data
  • Usage watched before billing bites

Inside the Monthly Management Fee

Data Studio costs nothing to open. This is the work that costs time, and what $250 a month starts to cover. Your Zoho license is billed by Zoho.

  • Dashboard design and build
  • Data source connections and sync scheduling
  • Sync health checks and failure remediation
  • Cross source data blending
  • File and spreadsheet imports
  • SQL query table development
  • KPI and metric definition
  • Scheduled report delivery
  • User and permission management
  • Data accuracy reviews and license advice

What Free Does Not Cover

The software is free. The upkeep is not.

Credentials Are a Quiet Risk

Data Studio can use the owner's credentials so viewers need no access of their own, with a warning to trust whoever you share them with (October 2026). When that owner leaves, the report may stop. We set access up deliberately and review it.

Connectors Vary in Who Stands Behind Them

Google builds connectors for products such as BigQuery, Sheets, and Analytics, while outside developers build others, with Facebook Ads and Salesforce named as examples (October 2026). We connect through native Zoho connectors, APIs, databases, and files, and monitor them.

Pro Is Licensed per Person

Pro is sold as individual user licenses billed monthly whether or not they are used, with team workspaces as a headline feature (October 2026). Our plan is priced by hours of Zoho work, not by users.

Free Is the Right Answer Sometimes

If your data lives in Google sources and one person keeps the reports honest, Data Studio is fine. We would tell you that on the first call.

Who Should Read This Comparison

Teams Doubting Dashboards

Two reports show different revenue, and nobody can say which definition is right, so the numbers get debated before anything is decided.

Companies Whose Builder Left

The person who built the Data Studio reports moved on, and a broken connector sits unexplained. Nobody left knows how the data was wired up.

Zoho One Owners Not Using It

You already pay for the bundle, and your records live in Zoho CRM and Books. Pulling them into Google tools is the roundabout path here.

Choose Looker Studio if

  • You want a free dashboard tool
  • Your data sits mostly in Google sources
  • Someone on staff keeps the sources connected

Choose Cascadia if

  • You still report from spreadsheets
  • You pay for Zoho One and never switched Analytics on
  • You report results to clients and want it consistent

How the Move Runs

  1. 1

    Inventory What Exists

We list your Data Studio reports, their data sources, who owns each, and which are actually opened.

  2. 2

    Define the Metrics

We agree and write down one definition for each number before rebuilding, resolving the disagreements between reports.

  3. 3

    Connect and Rebuild

Sources are connected in Zoho Analytics, syncs scheduled, and the reports that matter rebuilt and checked against the source systems.

  4. 4

    Watch and Adjust

Sync health is checked on a schedule, failures are fixed and backfilled, and new questions are handled on your monthly plan.

Still have a question?

Is Looker Studio still called Looker Studio?

Google's Pro documentation says "Looker Studio is now called Data Studio" (October 2026). Many guides still use the old name. We use both here so you can find it.

Is it really free?

The overview page calls it easy and free and shows a use it for free button, with no paid tier on that page (October 2026). Pro is a separate paid subscription.

What does Pro add?

Team workspaces and enhanced content management, with content owned by your organization through a Google Cloud project, which allows project level permissions (October 2026).

How is Pro billed?

Self service subscriptions are billed monthly for the number of user licenses, whether or not they are used, through a Cloud Billing account. Organization wide subscriptions bill by monthly active users and need a Google Cloud sales specialist (October 2026).

What does Pro cost per user?

The documentation we reached gives no price and points to a marketing page (October 2026). Check Google's current page before budgeting. Our plan is priced by hours of Zoho work, not by user.

Who gets free Pro licenses?

Eligible Looker customers receive at least 1,000 complimentary licenses, with exclusions such as original Looker contracts signed after August 1, 2026 (October 2026).

What data can it connect to?

The connectors page lists 23 Google connectors across business intelligence, databases, spreadsheets, marketing, and developer tools. Community connectors from outside developers add others, such as Facebook Ads and Salesforce (October 2026).

What are owner and viewer credentials?

With owner's credentials, the data source owner authorizes access so viewers need none of their own. With viewer's credentials, each viewer needs their own access. Administrators can turn the owner option off (October 2026).

What goes wrong with free dashboards?

Connectors break, a builder leaves, definitions drift between reports, and nobody notices a stale number. The tool is not at fault. The upkeep has no owner.

What does Managed Zoho Analytics cost?

Plans start at $250 a month and are priced by hours of Zoho work, not by users or apps. A plan covers 5 data sources and 10 dashboards, and extra hours come in 5-hour blocks.

Do I need a Zoho Analytics license?

Yes. You keep your own Zoho Analytics subscription and own the account and data. We work inside it as an administrator.

What happens when a sync fails?

We monitor sync status and act on failures. We reconnect, backfill what was missed, and confirm the numbers reconcile. If the cause is somewhere we cannot reach, we tell you exactly what needs changing.

How long does setup take?

Most setups are running within two weeks. The first covers access and priority sources, and the second builds or repairs your first dashboards.

Is there a contract?

No long term commitment. The subscription is monthly, and you keep every dashboard, report, and connection in your own Zoho account.

When should we stay with Looker Studio?

When your data is mostly in Google sources, one person keeps the reports honest, and you do not need governed definitions. The free tool is a good fit, and our fee would not buy much.
