What to Do with Your Former Google Domains Names
Google Domains no longer exists. Squarespace acquired its registrations on September 7, 2023, and your names now sit in a Squarespace account, perhaps one you never opened on purpose. Domain Management at Cascadia is $9 a domain on top of registry cost. We check the expiry date, lock, and nameservers every day, and we can do that without you moving anything.
With Cascadia you get
- Dates checked every day
- Warnings at 60, 30, and 7 days
- Lock confirmed, not assumed
- Nameservers compared daily
- Works with Squarespace today
- The domain stays in your name

Inside the Domain Management Price
We do not replace the registrar. We watch it. Here is what $9 a domain covers for a name that came over from Google.
- Daily check of the expiry date, registrar lock, and nameservers
- Warnings at 60, 30, and 7 days, and again if nothing has happened
- Auto-renew status verified instead of assumed
- Nameserver changes reported the next morning
- DNS delegation confirmed end to end, which matters after a move
- Contact details and privacy protection confirmed
- A 90 day record of every check
- A yearly review recommending which names to drop
What the Migration Left Unresolved
The move was done in bulk. The cleanup of each account was left to the owner.
Ownership May Sit with the Wrong Person
Squarespace gave owner permissions to the last person responsible for payment and manager permissions to all contributors (October 2026). That may be a former contractor. We list who is on each name.
Email Forwarding Can Fail Quietly
Their migration page says forwarding that stopped working is likely from custom nameservers combined with Google forwarding services (October 2026). Our nameserver check surfaces that sort of change.
Features Did Not All Come Across
Dynamic DNS is not supported, and existing SSL certificates work until expiration but do not renew (October 2026). Know which of your names relied on either.
Honest When Leaving Things Alone Is Right
If your names are in order at Squarespace, we will say so and skip the sale. We are here for the ones that are not.
Who Should Read This Comparison
Owners Who Never Opened a Squarespace Account
The account was created from your Google Domains email. You may not know which login owns the names today.
Companies with Mail or Sites on Migrated Names
Forwarding or DNS broke once and was patched. You want to know before it breaks again.
Teams That Want Out of Squarespace Domains
You prefer a different registrar, or no single owner holding the whole portfolio. We can help plan the transfer and keep watching during it.
Choose Google Domains if
- Your names moved and the account is in good order
- Someone reliable reads every renewal notice
- You hold one or two names and watch them yourself
Choose Cascadia if
- You want the leftovers from the move reviewed
- You want renewals watched and confirmed by a person
- You want one list of dates across every registrar
How We Handle a Google Domains Leftover
- 1
Find Out Where Each Name Landed
You give us the names. We check the registrar, the expiry date, the lock status, and the nameservers for each, with no login needed for the public facts.
- 2
Confirm Who Owns What
Squarespace set owners from payment records. We help you check that the right person owns each name and fix gaps through the Squarespace account.
- 3
Test the Things the Move Could Break
We compare nameservers against what they should be and confirm DNS delegation end to end, so a stale forwarding rule shows up now.
- 4
Watch Daily, Report Monthly
Checks run every day. The monthly report arrives on the first Tuesday on or after the 3rd, and a lock or nameserver change is reported the next morning.

Google Domains Alternative Questions
What happened to Google Domains, what Squarespace now offers, and how we help with the leftovers.
See Domain ManagementStill have a question?
What happened to Google Domains?
Squarespace acquired all of its domain registrations and the associated customer accounts on September 7, 2023, according to its own migration article, last updated May 28, 2026 (October 2026). Google Domains is no longer where your names live.
How do I log in to my migrated names?
Go to the Squarespace login page. If you had no account, one was created with your Google Domains email, and you can use Continue with Google. If you get an authorization error, request the verification email titled "Verification email for Squarespace Domains" (October 2026).
Who owns my domain after the move?
Owner permissions went to the last person responsible for payment, and manager permissions went to all contributors. If the domain does not share billing with a Squarespace site, ownership can be transferred to a manager (October 2026). Check that the right person holds it.
Why did my email forwarding stop?
Squarespace says it is likely custom nameservers combined with Google forwarding services, and the fix is to update DNS records (October 2026). A daily nameserver comparison would flag a change like that.
What does Squarespace not support for migrated domains?
Dynamic DNS is not supported. Existing SSL certificates will work until expiration but will not renew, and migrated domains are compatible only with Squarespace 7 (October 2026).
What does Squarespace Domains offer now?
The site lists WHOIS privacy on eligible domains, free SSL, DNSSEC, email forwarding, and 24/7 customer support, starting from "only $10" (October 2026). It gives no specific .com yearly price on that page.
How do I move a name away from Squarespace?
Switch the Domain Lock off in the dashboard, request a transfer code, and send it to the new provider. The code should arrive within 24 hours, and transfers can take up to 15 days. A recent registration or contact change can add a 60 day lock (October 2026).
Do I have to move my names to use Cascadia?
No. We watch a domain at its registrar, so your names can stay at Squarespace. Nothing is installed, and the domain stays registered in your name.
What do you check each day?
The expiry date, the registrar lock, and the nameservers. We verify auto-renew, confirm DNS delegation end to end, and check contact details and privacy protection.
Can you help if the Squarespace account belongs to a former employee?
We can list who the account contacts are and what needs changing, so you can make the fix through Squarespace. We cannot log in to the account for you.
Can you register new names?
Buying and renewing through us starts once the registrar API we depend on opens, so Domain Management is listed as coming soon. Today we watch the names you hold.
How early do warnings come?
At 60, 30, and 7 days before expiry, and again if nothing has changed. They reach your team, not only the email on the old Google account.
How much does it cost?
$9 a domain a month, with registry cost shown separately. For two names, that may be more than you need. For a dozen scattered ones, it is a better deal.
How soon can you start?
Setup starts within two business days, and the first full picture of your names arrives within a week.
When can I just leave my names at Squarespace?
When the account is in the right hands, renewals run on a working card, forwarding and DNS behave, and you can see every expiry date. Then you are done.
