NS1 Connect alternative
An NS1 Connect Alternative Sized for a Business Website
NS1 Connect is IBM's authoritative DNS platform, with traffic steering, health check monitors, an activity log, and a 100% uptime SLA. Essentials starts at $99 a month and Standard at $349 (October 2026). For a team routing traffic across several clouds or CDNs, that is money well spent. For a company website with a few dozen records, it is a great deal of platform with nobody assigned to run it.
With Cascadia you get
- Changes within two business days
- A zone copy before every change
- Records checked every morning
- 90 days of daily history
- One flat price per domain
- Your zone, your account

What Ships in the Standard Plan Here
With NS1 Connect you get filter chains, monitors, DNSSEC, an activity log, and zone versioning from the Standard plan up. Writing the steering rules, making the edits, and reading the log stay with your engineers.
- Record changes made for you within two business days of asking
- A copy of the whole zone taken before anything is touched
- That copy put back in seconds if a change goes wrong
- Live records compared every morning with what we last set
- A ticket naming the record when something moves outside the portal
- Ninety days of history for every record, day by day
- Email and verification records set up by people who know your zone
- Nameservers, proxy, and TTL settings checked and kept sensible
- Every record visible in your portal whenever you want to look
- No per-change fee and no ticket allowance to count against
Where Cascadia Goes Further
We do not compete with NS1 on traffic steering, and we will not pretend to. We compete on who does the work: the edit, the copy before it, and the check every morning after.
Versioning on the One Plan We Sell
On NS1 Connect, zone versioning is listed on Standard and above but not on Essentials (October 2026). Our copy of the whole zone is taken before every change, on the only plan there is.
Changes Made by People Who Know the Zone
You ask for a record in plain words. It goes in within two business days, done by the people who read your zone on day one, and it is checked against what it was meant to do.
A Daily Check Against What Was Set
An activity log records what users did. Our morning comparison checks the live records themselves, so a change from anywhere becomes a ticket naming what moved.
A Price That Fits a Business Site
Managed DNS is $15 a month per domain, against a starting price of $99 a month for NS1 Essentials (October 2026). Most of what the larger figure buys is capacity a business website seldom touches.
Who This Comparison Is For
Traffic Steering Is the Reason to Choose It
Filter chains decide the best destination for each query, and health check monitors keep traffic away from unhealthy resources. Nothing in Managed DNS does that, and if you need it, NS1 is the right call.
The SLA and Spike Protection Are Real
NS1 lists a 100% uptime SLA, and the Standard plan adds spike protection against DDoS and NXDOMAIN floods. Those matter a great deal to a business whose revenue rides on every query.
Allowances Measured in Millions
Essentials includes 30 to 80 million queries a month and 1,000 records (October 2026). A small company site uses a sliver of that, which tells you clearly who the plan was designed for.
Choose NS1 Connect if
- You steer traffic across clouds or CDNs
- A 100% uptime SLA is a contract requirement
- Engineers on staff maintain the rules
Choose Cascadia if
- You run one business site with ordinary records
- You want the edits made for you
- You want a daily check without enterprise pricing
Moving Your Zone from NS1 Connect in Four Steps
- 1
We Read the Zone and Its Rules
Every record, what it points at, and which are still in use. Records with filter chains or monitors attached get flagged, because that behavior has no equivalent here and you should decide about it knowingly.
- 2
We Rebuild It as Plain Records
The zone goes up on the platform we run, in an account in your name, and every record is compared with the NS1 original before a nameserver changes.
- 3
The Nameservers Switch
Once the copy matches, the nameservers change at your registrar. NS1 keeps answering for anyone with the old ones cached, so the move happens without downtime.
- 4
Your NS1 Plan Can End
When you are happy, the NS1 subscription can be wound down. From then on you ask, we change, and the records are compared every morning with what we last set.

NS1 Connect Alternative Questions
Straight answers about switching, pricing, and what moves with you.
See Managed DNSStill have a question?
What is an NS1 Connect alternative?
Anything else that can serve your zone, or anyone else who can look after it. At the enterprise end that means other managed DNS platforms. Lower down it means Amazon Route 53, Google Cloud DNS, DNSimple, and the DNS your registrar includes, plus managed services like this one. NS1 is at the sophisticated end of the market. We sit somewhere else entirely, selling the care of an ordinary zone.
How is Cascadia different from NS1 Connect?
NS1 Connect is a platform for engineers who need to steer traffic. We are a service for businesses that need their records changed correctly and watched. We make the changes within two business days, copy the zone before each one, and compare the live records every morning.
Is NS1 Connect more expensive?
For a single business site, yes. Essentials starts at $99 a month and Standard at $349, with Premium priced on request (October 2026). Managed DNS is $15 a month per domain. If you need NS1's steering and SLA, that comparison misses the point; if you do not, the price says a lot.
Do you offer traffic steering or health checks?
No. Filter chains, health check monitors, and steering between clouds or CDNs are what NS1 is for, and they are not part of Managed DNS. If your setup relies on them, stay with NS1.
Doesn't NS1 already keep an activity log and versions?
It keeps a detailed activity log of user actions, and zone versioning on Standard and above (October 2026). Both are good. What we add is the people: we take the copy before every change ourselves, and we look at the live records every morning so you do not have to.
We only bought NS1 for one launch. Can you take it over?
That is a common story and a good fit for us. We read the zone, flag anything that relies on NS1-specific behavior, rebuild the rest as plain records, and switch the nameservers once every record has been checked.
Can you move us off NS1 Connect without downtime?
Yes, when it is planned properly. Records are copied across and verified before the nameservers change, and NS1 keeps answering throughout. Your subscription is only wound down once the new zone is working.
Do we lose control of our DNS?
No. Leaving NS1 Connect does not mean handing the zone to us. It sits in an account in your name, every record is visible in your portal at any time, and you are asking us to do the work rather than giving up ownership.
What counts as a change we can ask for?
Anything in the zone. A records, CNAMEs, MX, TXT, and SRV, the verification record a new service asks for, a subdomain for a staging site. There is no per-change fee and no ticket allowance, so nobody has to ration requests.
Will you tell us about a change we did not make?
Yes. Every morning the live records are compared with what we last set. Anything that moved becomes a ticket naming the record and its previous value.
What is not included?
Traffic steering, health check monitors, real user monitoring, and dedicated DNS, all of which NS1 sells. Domain registration, which is Domain Management. We will set up the records your mail provider and your other services need.
Can we stop at any time?
Yes. It is monthly, and the zone is yours. If you leave, the records stay exactly where they are and our access simply ends. The first change after that is yours to make, so it is worth knowing who that will be.
Ready to right-size your DNS?
Fifteen dollars a month per domain. The edits are made for you within two business days, the zone is copied before each one, and the records are checked every morning.
