DNSimple alternative

A DNSimple Alternative for Teams Who Want the Changes Made for Them

DNSimple is a well-made DNS host. The Solo plan costs nothing beyond $0.50 a month per zone, Teams is $29 a month with one seat, and DNSSEC comes on every plan (October 2026). It is also, quite deliberately, a tool. Somebody on your side still writes the records, decides what is safe to touch, and notices when something moved. Managed DNS hands that somebody's job to us.

With Cascadia you get

  • Changes made for you
  • A zone copy before every change
  • Records checked every morning
  • 90 days of daily history
  • No per-change fee
  • Your zone, your account

What Ships in the Standard Plan Here

With DNSimple you get a clean dashboard, an API, Terraform support, webhooks, and an activity log. The decisions, the edits, and the habit of checking what changed overnight all stay with your team.

  • Record changes made for you within two business days of asking
  • A copy of the whole zone taken before anything is touched
  • That copy put back in seconds if a change goes wrong
  • Live records compared every morning with what we last set
  • A ticket naming the record when something moves outside the portal
  • Ninety days of history for every record, day by day
  • Email and verification records set up by people who know your zone
  • Nameservers, proxy, and TTL settings checked and kept sensible
  • Every record visible in your portal whenever you want to look
  • No per-change fee and no ticket allowance to count against

Where Cascadia Goes Further

An activity log shows what someone did inside the account. A daily comparison shows whether the live records still match what was set, whoever or whatever changed them.

The Change Is Made, Not Just Made Possible

DNSimple makes editing records pleasant. Here nobody on your side edits anything. You say what you need, and the record goes in within two business days, checked against what it was meant to do.

A Copy of the Zone Comes First

Before any change we copy the whole zone. If the change causes trouble, that copy goes back in seconds instead of being pieced together from an activity entry.

History That Does Not Depend on the Plan

On DNSimple's Solo and Solo Pro plans the activity view covers the last 30 days, with unlimited history from Teams upward. We keep 90 days of record history, day by day, at the one price.

Somebody Notices the Quiet Changes

A record removed by an integration or a hurried developer does not always announce itself as an error. Our morning comparison catches it and raises a ticket naming what it was.

Who This Comparison Is For

It Is a Good Tool, and We Say So

Anycast DNS, DNSSEC on every plan, DNSimple as secondary DNS from Solo Pro, POOL and regional records, a full API, and webhooks. If you want to run DNS yourself, DNSimple is a sensible place to do it.

Domains and DNS in One Account

DNSimple registers, transfers, and renews domains as well as hosting the zone. Managed DNS does not register names, so that convenience sits on their side of the table.

The Gap Opens When the Developer Leaves

A tidy DNSimple account still depends on one person who understands it. When that person moves on, the zone keeps answering and nobody keeps reading it.

Choose DNSimple if

  • A developer on your team owns DNS and likes it
  • Your own code or Terraform writes the records
  • You want domains and DNS in one self-service account

Choose Cascadia if

  • Nobody on your team wants to edit DNS
  • You want a copy taken before every change
  • You want to hear about a change the next morning

Moving Your Zone from DNSimple in Four Steps

  1. 1

We Export and Read the Zone

Every record, which service it belongs to, and which ones are leftovers. POOL records and anything else particular to DNSimple get noted, because each needs a plain equivalent before the move.

  2. 2

We Rebuild It and Compare Line by Line

The zone goes up on the platform we run, in an account in your name, and every record is checked against the DNSimple original before a nameserver changes.

  3. 3

    The Nameservers Switch

With the copy verified, the nameservers change at your registrar. DNSimple keeps answering for anyone with the old ones cached, so the move happens without downtime.

  4. 4

Your DNSimple Zones Can Wind Down

Once you are happy, the zones there can be removed. From then on you ask, we change, and every morning the records are compared with what we set.

Still have a question?

What is a DNSimple alternative?

Another place to host your zone, or another way of looking after it. That includes cloud DNS such as Amazon Route 53 and Google Cloud DNS, specialists such as ClouDNS and NS1 Connect, the free DNS at your registrar, and managed services like this one. DNSimple is among the friendliest of the self-service options. We are not self-service at all, which is rather the point.

How is Cascadia different from DNSimple?

DNSimple gives you very good tools for managing DNS. We do the managing. Record changes are made for you within two business days, the whole zone is copied first, and the live records are compared every morning with what we last set.

Is DNSimple cheaper?

For a single zone on Solo, yes: $0.50 a month, with 50,000 queries a month included before $0.80 per million (October 2026). Managed DNS is $15 a month per domain. On Teams at $29 a month for one seat plus zones (October 2026), the sums depend on how many domains you hold and what an hour of your team's time is worth.

Doesn't DNSimple already log changes?

It keeps an activity log: the last 30 days on Solo and Solo Pro, unlimited on Teams and Enterprise (October 2026). That shows what people did in the account. Our daily comparison looks at the live records themselves, so it also catches a change made through an API token or an integration nobody remembers connecting.

Our deploy pipeline writes DNS records. Is this for us?

Probably not. If your own systems create records automatically, a service where people make changes within two business days will feel slow, and DNSimple's API, scoped tokens, and Terraform support are the right tools. We suit businesses whose DNS changes a handful of times a year, by request.

What about an SLA?

DNSimple offers a 99% SLA on Teams and a 100% SLA as an option on Enterprise, and none on the Solo plans (October 2026). Our commitment is to the work itself: changes within two business days, a copy before each one, and a check every morning.

Can you move us off DNSimple without downtime?

Yes. Records are copied across and checked against the DNSimple originals before the nameservers change, and DNSimple keeps answering throughout. Nothing is deleted there until you have seen the new zone working.

Do we lose control of our DNS?

No. Leaving DNSimple does not mean handing the zone to us. It sits in an account in your name, every record is visible in your portal at any time, and you are asking us to do the work rather than giving up ownership.

What counts as a change we can ask for?

Anything in the zone. A records, CNAMEs, MX, TXT, and SRV, the verification record a new service asks for, a subdomain for a staging site. There is no per-change fee and no ticket allowance, so nobody has to ration requests.

Will you tell us when something changes that we did not ask for?

Yes, the next morning. The live records are compared daily with what we last set, and anything that moved becomes a ticket naming the record and what it said before.

What is not included?

Domain registration and renewal, which DNSimple does and we handle separately under Domain Management. Mailboxes. Records written automatically by your own code. We do set up the records your mail provider and other services ask for.

Can we stop at any time?

Yes. It is monthly, and the zone is yours. If you leave, the records stay exactly where they are and our access simply ends. The first change after that is yours to make, so it is worth knowing who that will be.

Ready to stop editing DNS yourselves?

Fifteen dollars a month per domain. You say what the record should be, we make it within two business days, and the zone is copied first and checked every morning after.
