ClouDNS alternative
A ClouDNS Alternative for Businesses That Want the Work Done
ClouDNS covers a lot for very little. There is a free plan for one zone, Premium S is $35.40 a year for five zones, and Premium M is $4.95 a month for fifty (October 2026). DNS backups, failover checks, and secondary DNS are all on the menu. Each one is still a setting somebody on your side has to choose, configure, and come back to. That somebody is what we provide.
With Cascadia you get
- Changes within two business days
- A zone copy before every change
- Records checked every morning
- 90 days of daily history
- Nothing extra to add on
- Your zone, your account

Where Cascadia Goes Further
ClouDNS sells backups as an add-on you switch on. We copy the zone before every change as standard, compare it every morning, and make the edits ourselves.
A Copy Taken Right Before Each Change
Not on a schedule you remember to set, but immediately before every edit, so the version you go back to is the one that was working a minute earlier.
The Edits Are Ours to Make
You tell us what the record should say. It goes in within two business days, it is checked against what it was meant to do, and the old value is written down.
A Daily Comparison, Not Just Uptime
Failover checks ask whether a server is answering. Our morning check asks whether the records still say what we set, which is a different question and the one that catches quiet mistakes.
One Price, Nothing to Bolt On
Managed DNS is $15 a month per domain, with the copy, the daily check, and the 90 days of history included. There is no per-change fee and no ticket allowance.
Who This Comparison Is For
On Price per Zone, ClouDNS Wins Easily
Fifty zones for $4.95 a month on Premium M (October 2026) is a different league from $15 a month per domain. If you hold many domains and are happy running them yourself, the arithmetic settles it.
Failover Checks Come Built In
Premium plans include DNS failover checks, one on Premium S and three on Premium L, along with secondary DNS and zone transfers. We do not offer failover at all.
A Generous SLA Covers Their Side
ClouDNS advertises an uptime SLA of up to 1,000%, extending your account by ten minutes for every minute of downtime. That covers their servers staying up. It cannot cover a wrong record typed in on your side.
Choose ClouDNS if
- You hold many domains and want the lowest cost per zone
- You rely on DNS failover checks
- Someone on staff enjoys configuring DNS
Choose Cascadia if
- You want the edits made for you
- You want a copy taken before every change, as standard
- You want to hear about a change the next morning
Moving Your Zone from ClouDNS in Four Steps
The ClouDNS zone carries on answering until the last step. The only thing that changes on the day is which name servers your registrar points at.
- 1
We Read the Zone as It Stands
Every record, which service it belongs to, and which are leftovers. Failover settings and web redirects get noted, because neither moves across as a plain record.
- 2
We Rebuild It and Check Every Record
The zone goes up on the platform we run, in an account in your name, and each record is compared with the ClouDNS original before anything is switched.
- 3
The Nameservers Change
With the copy verified, the nameservers change at your registrar. ClouDNS keeps answering for anyone with the old ones cached, so there is no downtime.
- 4
Your Plan Can Lapse Quietly
When you are satisfied, the ClouDNS plan can be left to run out. From then on, changes go through us and the records are compared every morning.

ClouDNS Alternative Questions
Straight answers about switching, pricing, and what moves with you.
See Managed DNSStill have a question?
What is a ClouDNS alternative?
Another place to host your zone, or another way to look after it. The usual names are Amazon Route 53, Google Cloud DNS, DNSimple, Bunny DNS, and the DNS your registrar includes, plus managed services like this one. ClouDNS is one of the best value hosts on that list. We are not competing on hosting price; we are selling the work around the zone.
How is Cascadia different from ClouDNS?
ClouDNS gives you plans, features, and add-ons to run your DNS yourself. We run it. Changes are made for you within two business days, the whole zone is copied before each one, and the live records are compared every morning with what we last set.
Is ClouDNS cheaper?
Yes. Premium S is $35.40 a year for five zones, Premium M is $4.95 a month for fifty, and Premium L is $14.95 a month for four hundred (October 2026). Managed DNS is $15 a month per domain. You are paying for people, not for zones.
Doesn't ClouDNS already offer backups?
It does, as a DNS backups add-on at $2 a month on the Premium plans (October 2026). That is a sensible thing to buy if you run the zone yourself. Ours works differently: a copy of the whole zone is taken immediately before every change we make, and goes back in seconds if the change misbehaves.
We need DNS failover. Is this for us?
No. ClouDNS includes failover checks on its Premium plans, and Managed DNS does not do failover. If your setup depends on DNS switching traffic away from a dead server, stay with a provider that offers it.
Can you move us off ClouDNS without downtime?
Yes. Records are copied across and verified against the ClouDNS originals before the nameservers change, and ClouDNS keeps answering throughout the switch. Nothing is cancelled there until you have seen the new zone working.
What about record limits?
ClouDNS plans cap records by tier, from 50 on the free plan to 20,000 on Premium L (October 2026). A typical business zone fits comfortably in any of them, so for most of our clients this is not the deciding factor.
Do we lose control of our DNS?
No. Leaving ClouDNS does not mean handing the zone to us. It sits in an account in your name, every record is visible in your portal at any time, and you are asking us to do the work rather than giving up ownership.
What counts as a change we can ask for?
Anything in the zone. A records, CNAMEs, MX, TXT, and SRV, the verification record a new service asks for, a subdomain for a staging site. There is no per-change fee and no ticket allowance, so nobody has to ration requests.
Will you tell us when something changes that we did not ask for?
Yes, the next morning. Every day the live records are compared with what we last set, and anything that moved becomes a ticket naming the record and what it said before.
What is not included?
Failover, secondary DNS, web redirects, mail forwarding, and dynamic DNS, all of which ClouDNS offers. Domain registration, which is Domain Management. We do set up every record your mail provider and other services need.
Can we stop at any time?
Yes. It is monthly, and the zone is yours. If you leave, the records stay exactly where they are and our access simply ends. The first change after that is yours to make, so it is worth knowing who that will be.
Ready to stop running DNS yourselves?
Fifteen dollars a month per domain. The changes are made for you, the zone is copied before each one, and somebody checks every morning that the records still say what they should.
