Bunny DNS alternative
A Bunny DNS Alternative for When Hosting Is Not the Hard Part
Bunny DNS hosts up to 500 zones with no charge for standard or smart queries, subject only to bunny.net's $1 monthly account minimum if DNS is all you use (October 2026). It adds scriptable records, analytics, raw logs, and built-in monitoring of A records. Hosting, in other words, is solved. What is left is the work around it, and that is the part we charge for.
With Cascadia you get
- Changes within two business days
- A zone copy before every change
- Every record checked daily
- 90 days of daily history
- People who know your zone
- Your zone, your account

With Bunny DNS you get free hosting, scriptable records, raw query logs, and automatic monitoring of A records by ping or HTTP. The edits, a copy before each one, and the habit of checking that nothing drifted stay with your team.
- Record changes made for you within two business days of asking
- A copy of the whole zone taken before anything is touched
- That copy put back in seconds if a change goes wrong
- Live records compared every morning with what we last set
- A ticket naming the record when something moves outside the portal
- Ninety days of history for every record, day by day
- Email and verification records set up by people who know your zone
- Nameservers, proxy, and TTL settings checked and kept sensible
- Every record visible in your portal whenever you want to look
- No per-change fee and no ticket allowance to count against
Where Cascadia Goes Further
Bunny watches whether your servers answer. We watch whether your records still say what they should. Both are worth having, and they are not the same thing.
Records Watched, Not Just Servers
Bunny's monitoring checks the hosts behind its A records by ping or HTTP. Our morning comparison covers the whole zone, MX and TXT records included, against what we last set.
A Copy Before Every Change
The whole zone is copied before any edit we make. If something breaks, the copy goes back in seconds rather than being rebuilt from whatever somebody remembers.
Edits Without Learning the Scripting
Scriptable DNS is a real strength for engineers. Most businesses only need a verification record added correctly, and here that is a request to us, done within two business days.
Specialists Who Already Know Your Zone
When something looks wrong, the people answering are the ones who read your zone on the first day, not a general queue working through it cold.
Who This Comparison Is For
Free Is Hard to Argue With
If you are comfortable editing DNS and checking it yourself, Bunny hosts the zone for nothing beyond the account minimum. Paying $15 a month per domain only makes sense if the work itself is worth handing over.
It Pairs Naturally with Bunny CDN
Teams already using bunny.net for CDN or storage get DNS in the same dashboard, with load balancing and custom nameservers available as well.
Good Tools Still Need Someone Holding Them
Scriptable records and raw logs reward the people who read them. In a business where nobody does, they sit unused while the zone slowly drifts from what anyone intended.
Choose Bunny DNS if
- You want DNS hosting that costs next to nothing
- You rely on scriptable or smart records
- Someone on your team edits and checks DNS
Choose Cascadia if
- Nobody on your team wants to touch DNS
- You want a copy taken before every change
- You want the whole zone checked every morning
Moving Your Zone from Bunny DNS in Four Steps
Bunny keeps serving the zone until the nameservers change, and they only change once every record has been checked.
- 1
We Read the Zone as It Stands
Every record, which service it belongs to, and which are leftovers. Scripted and smart records get flagged first, because their behavior has no plain equivalent and you should decide about each one.
- 2
We Rebuild and Verify It
The zone goes up on the platform we run, in an account in your name, and each record is compared with the Bunny original before anything is switched.
- 3
The Nameservers Change
With the copy verified, the nameservers change at your registrar. Bunny keeps answering for anyone still holding the old ones, so the move happens without downtime.
- 4
Then It Stays Uneventful
You ask for changes and they are made within two business days. Every morning the live records are compared with what we last set, and anything that moved becomes a ticket.

Bunny DNS Alternative Questions
Straight answers about switching, pricing, and what moves with you.
See Managed DNSStill have a question?
What is a Bunny DNS alternative?
Another place to host your zone, or another way to look after it. That includes Amazon Route 53, Google Cloud DNS, DNSimple, ClouDNS, the DNS that came with your registrar, and managed services like this one. Bunny is among the most generous on price. We are a paid service for the work, not a rival host.
How is Cascadia different from Bunny DNS?
Bunny gives you free hosting and capable tools to run DNS yourself. We do the running: changes made within two business days, the whole zone copied before each one, and the live records compared every morning with what we last set.
Why pay when Bunny DNS is free?
Because the hosting was never the expensive part. The cost of DNS shows up when a record goes missing and nobody notices for a week, or when a change takes the email down and there is no copy of what it said before. We charge $15 a month per domain for preventing those, not for answering queries.
Doesn't Bunny already monitor our records?
It monitors the servers behind your A records by ping or HTTP, which tells you whether they are up. It does not, as Bunny describes it, compare the zone with what was set. A TXT record deleted by mistake keeps every server healthy and still breaks your email. That is what our daily comparison is for.
We use smart or scripted records. Is this for us?
Probably not. Scriptable DNS and smart records are things Managed DNS does not replace. If your setup depends on them, Bunny is the better home, and we would say so after reading your zone.
Can you move us off Bunny DNS without downtime?
Yes, when it is planned properly. Records are copied across and verified before the nameservers change, and Bunny keeps answering throughout. The zone there can be removed once you have seen the new one working.
Do we keep using Bunny CDN?
You can. DNS and the CDN are separate products, and we can point records at Bunny CDN like any other service you use. Only the zone moves.
Do we lose control of our DNS?
No. Leaving Bunny DNS does not mean handing the zone to us. It sits in an account in your name, every record is visible in your portal at any time, and you are asking us to do the work rather than giving up ownership.
What counts as a change we can ask for?
Anything in the zone. A records, CNAMEs, MX, TXT, and SRV, the verification record a new service asks for, a subdomain for a staging site. There is no per-change fee and no ticket allowance, so nobody has to ration requests.
Will you tell us when a record changes unexpectedly?
Yes. The comparison runs every morning against what we last set, across the whole zone. Anything that moved becomes a ticket naming the record and what it said before.
What is not included?
Scriptable records, load balancing, and query analytics, which Bunny offers. Domain registration, which is Domain Management. Mailboxes. We do set up every record your mail provider and other services need.
Can we stop at any time?
Yes. It is monthly, and the zone is yours. If you leave, the records stay exactly where they are and our access simply ends. The first change after that is yours to make, so it is worth knowing who that will be.
Ready to hand the zone to someone who watches it?
Fifteen dollars a month per domain. Changes made within two business days, a copy before each one, and a check every morning that nothing has drifted.
