SMS-Magic alternative
What You Get Instead Of Running SMS-Magic Yourself
What makes it different
The short version
Where a managed service beats running SMS-Magic alone
Bookkeeping tools tend to assume every conversation happens over email. Bolt on a texting connector and the usual arrangement is that your customer records get copied out to an outside platform so it can do the sending and keep the thread.

Where we go further
Chasing a late invoice by text normally means a connector holding a copy of your customer records so it can do the sending. This extension inverts that arrangement: the message goes out of Zoho Books, the reply lands back on the record in SMS History, and nothing is ever sent to us.
Personalized at any volume
Dynamic text pulls values out of the record as each message is sent.
Every number, not just one
Records rarely hold a single phone number. The extension detects every phone field on a contact or account, including custom ones, and lets you choose which to text.
History follows the record
An estimate becomes an invoice, the invoice runs late, and a statement goes out at month end, and all of it reads as one thread. When the account moves to somebody else, the history moves with it.
Nothing phones home
Your records, your phone numbers, and your message content never leave your Zoho environment. We hold no copy and run no dashboard on our side.
Who this comparison is for
Bookkeepers waiting on unpaid invoices
Reminder emails get filed and forgotten. A text gets answered the same day.
Bookkeepers chasing receipts and missing paperwork
A short text gets answered when a third follow up email does not, and templates plus dynamic fields mean the message writes itself from the record. Schedule it for the morning a payment falls due.
Firms accountable for how client records are held
The extension executes inside your Zoho Books account, and messages leave through Twilio credentials that belong to you. There is no middle platform storing your customer list, so there is nothing to disclose about one.
How the Zoho Books SMS integration works
Four steps, and none of them involve standing anything up. You install the extension from the Zoho Marketplace, connect your Twilio credentials, and start texting from a record.
- 1
We assess your current setup
First we look at how things run today: what you already pay for, what is configured where, and which parts are actually causing you trouble.
- 2
Install from the Zoho Marketplace
There is a ten day free trial, so you can put it through real work before deciding. Nothing is hosted anywhere else, no server needs provisioning, and the SMS History module appears in Zoho Books ready to use.
- 3
Connect your own Twilio account
Because the account is yours, message charges are billed to you at Twilio rates and your delivery records stay in your own console.
- 4
Text a record and watch the reply land
Use a saved template if it is a message you send often, and dynamic fields fill in the details from the record.

The difference that matters
No second account, no second system
Both options give you two-way texting on your Zoho Books records, and on paper the feature lists look similar. The difference is architectural. SMS-Magic is a messaging platform you sign up for, and your conversations run through it. Ours is built in Deluge and runs inside your own Zoho account against your own Twilio credentials, so there is no SMS-Magic account to hold, no vendor dashboard to log into, and no copy of your customer data anywhere but Zoho.
If your objection to texting from Zoho Books has ever been “who else ends up holding this data”, that is the question this answers.
How SMS-Magic works
What SMS-Magic does, in their own words
SMS-Magic is a messaging platform from Screen-Magic that plugs into Zoho through the Marketplace. Here is what their own documentation says it does.
