What the managed part actually means
The usual way to add texting is to hand a connector your subscriber list so an outside platform can do the sending, which puts a live copy of who pays you what on servers you do not administer.
Every number, not just one
Records rarely hold a single phone number. The extension detects every phone field on a contact or account, including custom ones, and lets you choose which to text.
History follows the record
Nobody has to reconstruct the conversation out of several different screens.
Nothing phones home
We hold no copy and run no dashboard on our side. There is nothing for us to lose in a breach and nothing for you to ask us to delete, because we were never holding it.
Two way, not one way
Billing systems are built to send documents out, not to hold a conversation. This one captures the reply.
Who this comparison is for
Recovering failed subscription payments
An email asking someone to update it competes with everything else in the inbox, and a text does not.
Subscription teams handling renewals and changes
Schedule the send ahead of the renewal date. When somebody replies with a question, that reply sits on their account rather than in a shared inbox nobody owns.
Companies audited on how payment data is handled
Anything touching a paying subscriber eventually attracts a questionnaire. Which vendor sees the phone number, and where the message text ends up.
How the Zoho Billing SMS integration works
Four steps, and none of them involve standing anything up. You install the extension from the Zoho Marketplace, connect your Twilio credentials, and start texting from a record.
- 1
We assess your current setup
First we look at how things run today: what you already pay for, what is configured where, and which parts are actually causing you trouble.
- 2
Install from the Zoho Marketplace
There is a ten day free trial, so you can put it through real work before deciding.
- 3
Connect your own Twilio account
Paste your Twilio credentials into the setup screen and pick the numbers you want to send from.
- 4
Text a record and watch the reply land
Select several records to send in bulk, or schedule it for later. Every reply is written back to SMS History against the person who sent it.

The difference that matters
No second account, no second system
Both options give you two-way texting on your Zoho Billing records, and on paper the feature lists look similar. The difference is architectural. MessageMedia is a messaging platform you sign up for, and your conversations run through it. Ours is built in Deluge and runs inside your own Zoho account against your own Twilio credentials, so there is no MessageMedia account to hold, no vendor dashboard to log into, and no copy of your customer data anywhere but Zoho.
If your objection to texting from Zoho Billing has ever been “who else ends up holding this data”, that is the question this answers.
How Sinch MessageMedia works
What Sinch MessageMedia does, in their own words
MessageMedia, now part of Sinch, acquired the Smooth Messenger extension and rebranded it as SMS for Zoho. Here is what their listing states.
Taken from SMS for Zoho by Sinch MessageMedia. Checked September 2026.
