Email Delivery for Cloudflare
Send WordPress Email Through Cloudflare
MountDev Email Delivery for Cloudflare is a free plugin that sends every email WordPress produces through Cloudflare Email Service instead of your web server. It takes over wp_mail, so core notices and mail from other plugins leave over one authenticated connection.
What makes it different
- One provider, not twenty
- Free with nothing held back
- Honest about the beta
- No snippets in functions.php
- Your log, your database
- Built by people who run sites
In detail
What Each Part Does
The plugin makes one big choice. It swaps out wp_mail, the function WordPress itself calls to send anything, instead of patching mail plugin by plugin.
It Replaces Wp_mail
A password reset, a comment notice, a WooCommerce receipt, and a contact form submission all end in a call to wp_mail. Now every one of them leaves by the same authenticated route.
There is no separate setup for your store or your form plugin. If it uses the standard mail function, it is covered.
The Connection Itself
Mail goes to Cloudflare’s Email Sending API over HTTPS. You enter your Cloudflare Account ID and an API token. No SMTP host, no port, no username.
The token is encrypted with AES-256 before it is saved. After that, each message goes out against your own Cloudflare account, whatever your web host does or does not allow.
A Sender Identity You Set Once
Out of the box, WordPress sends as a generic name and address that nobody’s brand matches, and plugins inherit it. The common patch is a snippet in the theme’s functions file. It works until a theme update erases it.
Here the from name and from address sit in the plugin settings and apply to the whole site, even when another plugin tries to set its own name.
A Send Log in Your Own Database
Each message is written down with its recipients, subject, body, headers, timestamp, delivery status, and Cloudflare’s response. When a customer says the receipt never came, you can see whether it left and when.
The log is a table in your WordPress database. Nothing is pushed to a hosted dashboard.
Retention You Control
Keep entries for 7, 14, 30, 60, 90, 180, or 365 days, or forever. The default is 30 days, and a cleanup button applies your choice immediately.
A store that sends hundreds of messages a day fills that table fast. A shorter window keeps backups from quietly doubling in size.
A Test Send
Most setup problems come from the token, the domain, or the sender address. The test send mails a real message from the settings screen, so you find out before a customer does.
Your Cloudflare account, your log. Delivery runs against your own account at Cloudflare’s rates, and the record of what was sent stays in your database rather than on a dashboard of ours.

Ready to Install the Plugin?
The plugin installs in minutes. Getting Cloudflare ready takes longer, and the setup guide covers both.
How It Differs from a General SMTP Plugin
A general SMTP plugin speaks to every provider, which is handy while you are still choosing one. Once you have picked Cloudflare, most of that range becomes settings you never open.
| What to compare | How it works here |
|---|---|
| Cloudflare setup vs generic SMTP form | The settings screen asks only for what Cloudflare needs, right down to the token username it expects. |
| Free in full vs free tier with upsell | Many SMTP plugins keep the log, a second sender, or a fallback route behind a paid license, which makes the free copy a trial. Nothing is held back here. |
| Log in your database vs external dashboard | The log stays in your own database. Tools that ship it to a hosted dashboard add an account, a login, and a copy of your email metadata on a server you do not control. |
| Retention setting vs unbounded growth | You pick how long entries live. Without that, the table grows until a backup of your busiest site is twice the size it was. |
| Test send built in vs deploy and hope | The settings screen has a test send for setup. Skip it, and the first sign of trouble is a customer whose password reset never arrived. |
| Named requirements vs vague promises | Nothing sends until you have a Workers Paid plan and a domain onboarded for sending. We say so up front. |
Cost
What It Costs
The plugin is free. Delivery runs on your own Cloudflare account, not through us.
The Plugin
Free on WordPress.org, with no per-site license. Install it on as many sites as you need.
Your Cloudflare Account
Sending is billed by Cloudflare at its rates. We never resell delivery, so no margin sits between your site and the mail leaving it.
Your Hosting
It runs inside the WordPress site you already host. There is nothing extra to stand up.
Would you rather hand it all over? Managed email delivery is one of our services, separate from this plugin.
Who Email Delivery for Cloudflare Is For
Sites Already Running on Cloudflare Workers
Your DNS is on Cloudflare, your Workers run there, and the plan is already paid for. A separate email vendor would add one more bill, one more API key, and one more dashboard to check.
Get StartedWooCommerce Stores Losing Order Receipts
A missing receipt or shipping notice is the kind of failure customers remember. Mail sent unauthenticated from a host is where those messages tend to vanish, so routing wp_mail through an authenticated service goes straight at the cause.
Get StartedAgencies Standardizing a Fleet of Sites
One provider and one settings screen across many sites beats juggling twenty setups. Every site is configured the same way, the log lives in the same place on each, and no site needs its own license key.
Get StartedHow to Get Started
1. Get Your Cloudflare Account Ready
Start outside WordPress. You need a Cloudflare account on the Workers Paid plan, your sending domain onboarded for Email Sending, and an API token allowed to send. The plugin cannot create any of these, so this is where most setup trouble begins.
Get Started2. Install and Connect the Plugin
Install the plugin from the Plugin Directory and activate it. Open its settings, enter your Cloudflare Account ID, and paste in the API token.
Get Started3. Run a test send and check the log
Send a test message from the settings screen. Once it lands, wp_mail is running through Cloudflare, and every plugin on the site uses it from that moment.

What does the Email Delivery for Cloudflare plugin actually do?
It stops WordPress from mailing out of your web server and hands each message to Cloudflare Email Service. The plugin takes over wp_mail, so core notices and mail from other plugins all reach Cloudflare through its Email Sending API. It also logs every send, sets one from name and address for the site, and includes a test send.
Is the plugin really free?
Yes. No charge, no paid tier, no license key, and nothing sits behind an upgrade. It installs from the WordPress Plugin Directory like any free plugin. The sending service behind it belongs to Cloudflare, and the next answer covers that.
Do I need to pay Cloudflare to use it?
Yes, though the money goes to Cloudflare, not us. Email Sending needs the Workers Paid plan on the account you send from, and your sending domain must be onboarded for Email Sending on the account that owns the API token. The plugin cannot work around either. If you already pay for Workers, you have nothing more to buy.
Does the plugin use Cloudflare SMTP or the API?
The API. It calls the Cloudflare Email Sending API over HTTPS, so you never enter an SMTP host, port, or username. You supply your Account ID and an API token, and each wp_mail message goes out against your own Cloudflare account.
What is Cloudflare Email Service?
It is Cloudflare’s email product for developers, with outbound sending and inbound routing in one place. It targets transactional mail: password resets, order confirmations, verification messages, and alerts. Workers reach it through a native binding, any platform can call its REST API, and authenticated SMTP exists too. This plugin uses the REST API, so an ordinary WordPress site needs no custom code.
How is this different from Cloudflare Email Routing?
Routing handles incoming mail and forwards what people send to addresses on your domain. Sending handles outgoing mail. Both sit under Cloudflare Email Service but do opposite jobs. The plugin only deals with mail leaving WordPress, so you do not need Routing, and switching it on will not make your site send anything.
What do I need before I install it?
Three things: a Cloudflare account on the Workers Paid plan, the sending domain onboarded for Email Sending on that account, and an API token with permission to send. Have them ready first, because the plugin uses them but cannot make them. Once you have the token, the WordPress side takes a couple of minutes.
How do I connect the plugin to Cloudflare?
Activate the plugin and open its settings. Type in your Cloudflare Account ID, paste the API token, and fill in the from address and from name for the site. Save, then run the test send. If the message arrives, WordPress is sending through Cloudflare and you are done.
Will it cover emails from WooCommerce, Contact Form 7, and other plugins?
Yes, if the plugin calls wp_mail, and nearly all do. Because this plugin replaces wp_mail itself rather than hooking into other plugins one at a time, anything built on the standard function is covered on activation. The exception is a rare plugin that opens its own connection and skips wp_mail entirely.
Why are my WordPress emails not sending in the first place?
Many shared hosts block outbound mail or send it unauthenticated from an IP address with no reputation. A mailbox provider then sees a message claiming to be from your domain with nothing to back it up, and it drops the message or files it as spam. No error appears, so the site looks healthy while receipts and password resets disappear.
What does the email log record?
Each entry holds the recipients, subject, body, headers, timestamp, delivery status, and Cloudflare’s response. That settles the question of whether a message left and when. If a customer reports a missing receipt, the log tells you at once whether to look at your site or at their inbox.
How long are log entries kept?
You choose: 7, 14, 30, 60, 90, 180, or 365 days, or forever. The default is 30 days. The log lives in your database, so a busy store sending hundreds of messages daily will want a shorter window, since a table that never shrinks makes every backup heavier. A cleanup button applies the setting right away.
Can I change the from name and from address?
Both, and the change covers the whole site. WordPress defaults to a generic sender that rarely matches your brand, and plugins inherit it. Set the from address and from name once and every message follows, with no theme edit and no functions.php snippet for the next update to wipe out.
How do I know the connection actually works?
Run the test send from the settings screen. It mails a real message over the connection you configured and reports the result. A wrong token, a domain not yet onboarded, or a from address your account may not use will show up there during setup, not in a complaint from a customer.
Is Cloudflare Email Service production ready?
It is in beta, and Cloudflare says features and APIs may change before general availability. Email Sending entered public beta in April 2026. Whether to run production mail on it is your call, and a beta carries no promise of a mature product’s stability. The email log helps, since you can watch real delivery results instead of guessing.
Where do I get the plugin, and who supports it?
It is listed in the WordPress Plugin Directory, so you can install it from the Plugins screen in your admin with no download. Questions about the plugin come to us. Questions about your Cloudflare plan, domain onboarding, or API tokens go to Cloudflare, because we cannot see inside your account.
