A SurveyMonkey Alternative for Teams Who Bought the Seats and Still Have No Survey Programme

SurveyMonkey team plans start at thirty dollars a seat a month and you cannot buy fewer than three of them. What the seats do not include is the person who decides what you are actually trying to learn, writes the questions so the answers mean something, and keeps the programme running after the first send. We do that part, for Zoho Survey, at three hundred dollars a month for the whole organisation.
What SurveyMonkey gives you, and what it leaves on your desk
Published prices, a three seat minimum, and a question set nobody has written yet
SurveyMonkey publishes its team pricing plainly, which is more than two of the other vendors on this hub manage. Team Advantage is thirty dollars a user a month and Team Premier is ninety two, both billed annually, and both start at three users whether the third person needs a seat or not. None of it tells you who is going to write the first questionnaire.

You cannot buy a team plan for two people

Their own FAQ is direct about it. Team plans require a minimum of three users. If two of you run the research, you buy three seats anyway or you drop to an individual plan and lose the shared assets and the roles that made a team plan worth having. The third seat bills whether anybody signs into it or not.
Icon representing branding and logic held to the upper tier

White label branding and the deeper logic sit on Premier

White label branding, advanced logic, block randomisation, multilingual surveys and crosstabs are what SurveyMonkey lists as the things Team Premier adds over Team Advantage, at ninety two dollars a user a month against thirty. If you survey customers in two languages, or you need the results cross tabulated, the entry tier is not the one you want.

Single sign on and your own subdomain mean a sales call

Phone support arrives on Team Premier. Single sign on, a custom subdomain, user management and reports, centralised billing and a choice of US, Canadian or EU data centre are all Enterprise, which starts at five users and is quoted rather than published. Premium onboarding and Customer Success access sit in the same place.
Capable software, and a questionnaire still unwritten
The tool is not the weak point here, and we will not pretend it is
SurveyMonkey has been the name people reach for since before most of this category existed, and the free Basic plan means you can have a survey out this afternoon without paying anybody. Four hundred templates, a question editor that does not fight you, and a response view anybody can read. Every criticism below is about the gap between owning the seats and running a survey programme somebody acts on.

Cascadia

A question set written once by somebody who knows what you are trying to learn, and revised as the programme runs.

Without Cascadia

Three seats bought in week one, one survey sent in month two, and a folder of responses nobody has opened since.

Comparison

Cascadia vs SurveyMonkey
SurveyMonkey sells you the editor and the seats to use it. What can actually be compared is who does the writing and the running afterwards. Everything in the Cascadia column is part of Managed Zoho Survey at one flat monthly figure.

Somebody decides what you are trying to learn before the first question gets written

The questionnaire written for your business, not simply a template made available to edit

A scheduled review of which surveys still earn their send, with the dead ones retired

One figure for the organisation, so adding six colleagues does not change the invoice

The person who wrote your question set is still reachable a year later

A question that leads the answer caught before the survey goes out, not after

Response rates and drop off points watched on purpose, rather than noticed at the end

The response sits in the same estate as the CRM record and the ticket it relates to

A straight no on the first call if you already employ a researcher who does this

Distribution, reminders and response alerts configured for you, not left as options

Where SurveyMonkey fits

If you want the most recognised survey tool on the market and you have somebody in house who will write and run the programme, SurveyMonkey is a straightforward yes. Nothing on this page argues otherwise.

Where the seat ends and the survey programme begins

We exist for the company that bought three seats, sent one survey in the first month, and has not opened the editor since. The software is fine. The programme stopped.

Where SurveyMonkey is strong

Icon representing team pricing published legibly on the vendor page
The pricing is published, and you can do the arithmetic
Team Advantage is thirty dollars a user a month billed annually and Team Premier is ninety two. Both render in the page where anybody can read them, along with the three user minimum and the fifteen cents you pay for every response past your limit. Two of the other vendors on this hub publish no figure at all.
Icon representing a free plan and four hundred ready made templates
The product is genuinely easy to get started with
A free Basic plan, more than four hundred templates, and an editor somebody who has never built a survey can finish something in. Two decades of watching where respondents give up has gone into the defaults. We would rather say this plainly than pretend the tool is the weak point.
Icon representing seat roles that assume an in house research team
It is built for a company that already employs researchers
Full Access and Analyst seats exist as separate roles because SurveyMonkey assumes a division of labour. Somebody writes and sends, others read and comment on what came back. For a company that already has that first group on the payroll, the shape is exactly right.
Icon representing premium onboarding sold at the enterprise tier
They accept that somebody has to run it
Premium onboarding and Customer Success access are real parts of the Enterprise tier, which is to say SurveyMonkey own commercial model concedes the argument this page is making. What they do not do is include that arrangement at the tier most companies actually buy.
None of that is padding, and if SurveyMonkey is already in place with somebody genuinely running it, it is very likely the right home for your research. What no survey tool does is decide what is worth asking. Each capability in that list waits for a person on your side to choose the question, word it so it does not lead, and act on what comes back. Holding that job is separate from buying the seats, and it is the job our Managed Zoho work exists to do.

What three hundred a month buys once the running of it is somebody's job

Icon representing one organisation fee with no seat count beside it
One figure for the whole organisation, with no seat count underneath it
Account setup and user provisioning, the question set, branding and themes, skip logic and branching, distribution by email, link, embed and QR code, response monitoring and the reporting afterwards. Three hundred a month whether you are eighteen people or eighty.
Icon representing the point where seat cost passes a flat management fee
Past about ten people, their seats cost more than our fee
Team Advantage is thirty dollars per user per month on annual billing. Three hundred divided by thirty lands at ten. Below that they are cheaper, and at their three seat minimum SurveyMonkey is ninety a month against our three hundred. Past ten the seats alone cost more than we charge to run the whole programme, and nobody has written a question yet.
Icon representing one named person still reachable in month fourteen
You are not re-explaining the research to a stranger every year
The same named person who decided what you were trying to learn and how the question was worded is the person you reach in month fourteen. No handover to a new account team, and no ticket queue in between.
Icon representing responses landing beside the records they relate to
The response lands where the record already lives
Zoho Survey writes into CRM, Campaigns, Desk and Analytics directly. The satisfaction score and the ticket that produced it stop being two systems joined by a nightly export.
SurveyMonkey may well be enough. For a team that already employs somebody who lives in it, it usually is, and we will say so on the call rather than after you have signed.

Onboarding process

What the first sixty days look like once the research finally has an owner

Most of the work is ours. Every product compared on this hub will collect an answer correctly. What goes wrong is everything arranged around it, so that is where the first two months go.

1

Nothing gets sent until we know what you would do differently with the answer

A survey that cannot change a decision is a survey worth cancelling. We sit with the person who wants to run it and ask what they would do if the answer came back the opposite way. When there is no answer to that, we say so before anything gets written.

2

We count the surveys already running, the ones half finished and the lists you send to

The satisfaction survey that goes out automatically, the one built for a conference last spring, and the list somebody exported to a spreadsheet and has been mailing by hand ever since. That third group is usually the one that surprises somebody.

3

The questions, the audience and the send schedule get written down

What each question is actually measuring, who receives it and how often, what happens to a response once it lands, and who is on the hook for reading them. Decided once, on paper, instead of argued about after the send.

4

You run a full cycle on it, straight through one real send and its follow up

The first cycle runs with us alongside it. Anything that reads wrong gets changed while we are still there, rather than becoming a question people quietly skip for the next two years.

Testimonials

Don't Take Our Word For It

Two situations where the survey tool was fine and the running of it was not
Neither of these is a client story. Both are shapes we see often enough to describe. A business whose research has grown past what a Zoho estate can carry belongs on managed Frappe Insights instead, and raising that early costs us less than selling you something you will need to leave.
A closed laptop and a cold cup of coffee on a desk nobody has returned to

How this plays out

A company that bought three seats and sent one survey

They bought three Team Advantage seats after a good demo and committed for the year, because there is no monthly team option to commit to instead. One customer satisfaction survey went out in the first six weeks and came back with a hundred and forty replies. Then the person who wrote it moved to another role. Eighteen months on the seats still renew, the replies are still sitting in the account, and nobody has opened them. The renewal was handled. The reading was never anybody's job.
A man at a laptop working out how long something has been going wrong

When this comes up

A question that led the answer, and a year of decisions built on it

A thirty person company asked customers to rate how helpful their support had been on a scale running from good to excellent. The answers came back overwhelmingly positive, because the question had left no room for anything else. Nobody re-read the wording, because re-reading the wording was not on anybody's list, and a year of decisions were made on a number that could only ever have been high.
300

Dollars a month for the whole organisation, and the figure is printed here

Every part of it, from the first count of your existing surveys to the question set rewritten a year in. Your Zoho Survey licence is bought in your own name and sits separately from this.
0

Dollars charged per seat, per survey or per response collected

The survey audit, the question set, the distribution build, the migration and the revisions all sit inside the monthly figure. Adding six colleagues in March does not change it.
4-8

Weeks, typically, before the first survey goes out under the new programme

Four to eight weeks in most cases, and longer where the audience lists are scattered across several systems that disagree with one another.

SurveyMonkey alternative and managed Zoho Survey FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

How does SurveyMonkey compare to Qualtrics, Alchemer and Microsoft Forms?
Microsoft Forms publishes no price, because it arrives inside a Microsoft 365 subscription a good many companies are already paying for, and it states no response limit anywhere on its product page. SurveyMonkey starts at thirty a user a month on a three seat minimum. Alchemer runs from fifty five a user a month and caps its self serve plans at three users. Qualtrics publishes no figure at all and prices on interactions rather than seats. All four will collect an answer correctly. None of them decides what is worth asking.
Do both SurveyMonkey team tiers give you the full editor?
Both team tiers give you unlimited surveys and unlimited questions, so the editor itself is not where the line falls. SurveyMonkey puts white label branding, advanced logic, block randomisation, multilingual surveys and crosstabs on Team Premier at ninety two dollars a user a month. We will not go further than that, because the full feature matrix sits on a separate page and we do not describe a table we have not read.
What does SurveyMonkey actually cost?
It is published, which is a relief after several vendors on this hub. Team Advantage is thirty dollars per user per month and Team Premier is ninety two, both billed annually, and both require a minimum of three users. That makes ninety a month the real floor rather than thirty. Enterprise starts at five users and is quoted rather than published. Any response past your plan limit costs fifteen cents.
Which SurveyMonkey capabilities sit on the higher tiers?
Team Premier adds white label branding, advanced logic, block randomisation, multilingual surveys, crosstabs and phone support over Team Advantage. Enterprise adds single sign on, a custom subdomain, user management and reports, enhanced governance and security, centralised billing, a choice of US, Canadian or EU data centre, premium onboarding and Customer Success access. Enterprise is the only one of the three that carries no published price.
What is not on the published tier list?
Whether the question you wrote will get an honest answer. Whether the people you are sending it to have already been asked four times this quarter. What your response rate should have been, and whether the one you got is bad. Who reads the replies when they land, and what changes as a result. None of that is a feature you can buy on any tier of anything. It is a job somebody has to hold.
We already pay for SurveyMonkey. Why would I pay you three hundred a month on top?
Often you should not, and we say so regularly. If somebody in your building already writes the questions, runs the sends and reads what comes back, you would be paying us to duplicate work that is already being done. Call us when that person leaves, or when nobody can name who it is.
At what point does SurveyMonkey stop being the cheaper answer?
On the seat arithmetic, at around ten people. Team Advantage at thirty dollars per user per month reaches three hundred dollars at ten users. Below that they cost less, and at their three seat minimum SurveyMonkey is ninety a month against our three hundred. Worth saying separately that Team Premier at three seats is two hundred and seventy six a month, which lands within twenty four dollars of our figure. Keep in mind that the two numbers are not the same kind of thing. Theirs is software. Ours is somebody writing and running it, and you buy the Zoho Survey licence separately.
Is SurveyMonkey metered on people or on responses?
Both, and that is the part people miss. You pay per seat per month with a three seat floor, and each plan also carries an annual response ceiling. Team Advantage allows fifty thousand responses a year and Team Premier a hundred thousand, counted across every survey and every user on the account. Go past it and each further response is fifteen cents.
Is SurveyMonkey a better product than Zoho Survey?
As a standalone survey tool it is the more polished of the two and the template library is deeper, and we would rather say that than pretend otherwise. Zoho Survey wins on a narrower point. It is already inside the estate where your customers, your tickets and your campaigns live, so a response can update a record instead of sitting in a separate account, and bought from us it arrives with somebody to run it.
Does Zoho Survey connect to the rest of Zoho?
That is the reason to choose it. Survey writes into CRM, Campaigns, Desk and Analytics directly, so a satisfaction score can land on the contact record and a poor one can open a ticket without anybody exporting anything.
What exactly do you do for three hundred a month?
We set up the account and provision your users, decide with you what the survey is actually for, write the questions, build the skip logic and branching, brand it, distribute by email, link, embed and QR code, watch the responses arrive, build the reporting, run your NPS and CSAT programmes, and connect it to CRM, Campaigns, Desk, Analytics and Flow. The figure covers the organisation and does not move when you hire.
Who holds the Zoho Survey licence, you or us?
You do, and that is deliberate. The Survey subscription is bought in your name and stays there. If you stop working with us you keep the account, every question set and every response in it, and carry on without a migration. Zoho Assist is the only service where we carry the licence.
Can you move us off SurveyMonkey?
Yes, and it involves one step a straight rebuild does not. Alongside recreating the surveys, anything that was asked two different ways in two different places gets settled into one wording rather than carried across as it stands. Migrating the inconsistency faithfully is not a migration worth paying for.
Is there a minimum term?
No. Three hundred a month, month to month, thirty days notice. SurveyMonkey team plans are billed annually and start at three seats, by their own FAQ, so compare the commitment as well as the number.
What if we are only five people?
Then buy the three SurveyMonkey seats, or start on their free Basic plan, and keep your three hundred dollars. At five people the research is small enough for one person to hold in their head. Come back when that stops being true.
What happens if we outgrow Zoho?
Some businesses do. Once the research is longitudinal panel work, complex quota sampling or regulated data collection, the ceiling is real and we will say so before you reach it. We move clients on to Frappe when that day arrives rather than defending a fit that has stopped working.
