A LearnUpon Alternative For Teams Under Its Published Minimum

LearnUpon will not sell to you below one hundred users, and they say so in writing rather than in a sales call. If you sit under that line, or outside the audiences they serve, the platform is not what is holding you back. The system underneath it is.

What LearnUpon publishes, and what it leaves out

There is a floor, it is published, and there is still no price
LearnUpon lists a minimum for each of its three products and a figure for none of them. Employees starts at one hundred users, Associations at one hundred and fifty, Customer Education at three hundred. What it costs at those sizes is a conversation you have to book.

The minimum is stated plainly, which is more than most vendors manage

Most platforms at this level keep the floor for the second call. LearnUpon prints it beside each product. Read that as a courtesy rather than a warning, because it saves you a fortnight of discovery you would never get back.

They also name the work they will not take

Their own answers rule out on premise deployments, HIPAA regulated workloads, and student audiences in schools and higher education. Almost nobody writes that down. If you are in one of those groups you already have your answer.

Three products, and the audience decides which one you buy

Employees, Associations and Customer Education are sold separately, each with its own floor. A company training staff this year and customers the next is looking at a second purchase rather than a wider licence.

One company with a floor, one company without one

LearnUpon solves the platform. We solve what the platform will not bend to.
On one side sits a mature learning platform with a consultant attached to every plan and a minimum you have to clear before anyone will sell it. On the other sits an open source system somebody shapes around the way your training already runs. This is a question of fit and size, not of quality.

Cascadia

An open source learning system built to match how your training already works, then hosted and supported for one flat fee with no user bands to climb.

Without Cascadia

A mature hosted platform with a published user minimum, three audience specific products, and a price you only reach by talking to somebody.

Comparison

Cascadia vs LearnUpon
Every row below is about shape and size rather than quality. LearnUpon is a well built platform with a floor underneath it. Read the four cards further down before you read this table, because they carry the honest half of it. All of the configuration work here is covered by our managed Frappe Learning service.

A price published on this page, readable before anybody talks to sales

No minimum user count to reach before the product is sold to you

One monthly figure that does not move as your headcount does

Training rules rewritten in the system rather than chosen from a settings page

One system whether the audience is staff, members, customers or students

Whoever built the enrolment rule is who answers when it misfires

Source code you can read, change, and keep running without us

One database holding the learner, the course record and the rest of the business

A deployment that can move on premise if compliance ever demands it

A fit review that costs nothing and can end with us recommending theirs

Where LearnUpon fits

If you are training at least one hundred employees, you want an implementation consultant and around the clock support included rather than sold, and your audience is one they serve, LearnUpon is a straightforward and sensible buy.

Where a published minimum starts to matter

We are for the case underneath their floor, or beside it. A team of thirty. A mixed audience of staff and customers. An ERPNext instance already holding the people the training is meant for.

Where LearnUpon is strong

Icon representing a platform built to run at large scale
Every plan carries a consultant, a named contact and support around the clock
An implementation consultant, a customer success contact and technical support at any hour sit on every plan rather than the top one. That is unusual, it is expensive to staff, and it is the single best reason to buy them.
Icon representing a ready made content catalogue sold alongside the platform
They tell you who they will not serve, in writing
Under one hundred users, on premise, HIPAA workloads, schools and higher education. Publishing that list costs them deals and saves you a procurement cycle. We would rather compete with a vendor who does that than one who does not.
Icon representing skills mapping and advanced analytics tooling
They sell content and Frappe Learning ships none at all
LearnUpon Content through Go1 puts a bought catalogue next to the platform. Frappe Learning delivers, tracks and certifies training and includes no courses whatsoever. If you need a library on day one, that gap is real and it is ours.
Icon representing federal procurement handled through an authorised platform
The packaged AI and skills tooling is further ahead than ours
Create Plus, an assistant called Lia, AI assisted assessments and a skills product ship as finished features. We can build equivalents, and something you switch on this afternoon is a different proposition from something somebody builds for you.
All of that stands and none of it is grudging. LearnUpon is a good platform run by people who are unusually honest about its edges, and for a lot of companies it is simply the right purchase.

What a flat six hundred a month covers that a user tier never will

Icon representing a system reshaped rather than merely configured
The system bends to the process, rather than the process to the settings
A hosted platform hands you options inside what it was built to do. We hand you the source, so an enrolment rule nobody anticipated becomes a change to make rather than a limit to work around.
Icon representing open source software with no meter behind it
No floor to clear, and no band to climb into
Thirty people is a normal size here. So is three thousand. The fee is the same either way, because it is priced on the work we do rather than on how many people signed in during a month.
Icon representing one team that builds the system and then answers about it
One audience or four, inside the same instance
Staff training, member education, customer onboarding and course delivery to students all sit in one system. There is no second product to buy on the day the audience widens.
Icon representing learners, projects and invoices in a single instance
One instance, if ERPNext already runs the rest of the business
Frappe Learning runs alongside ERPNext, so an employee record, a certification and the job it qualifies somebody to do live in one database rather than three and a nightly sync.
LearnUpon will run training properly for a company that clears its minimum and fits one of its three audiences. Our case is the one underneath that, where the training record itself is what needs designing, and the same reasoning runs beneath the rest of our managed Frappe services.

Onboarding process

What the first sixty days look like when nobody is counting logins

Installing the software is the short part. Everything below is the part that decides whether people actually finish their training.

1

We read your certification matrix before we open the software

We sit with whoever assigns the training, chases the overdue and signs off the certificates, and write down what happens in practice rather than what the policy document says.

2

Records move across and reconcile before anyone is asked to trust them

Learners, courses, completion history and live certification status migrate into a copy first. Nothing goes live until the numbers on both sides agree.

3

The parts you will never touch stay switched off

Frappe Learning carries courses, lessons, quizzes, assignments, batches and certification. A system showing somebody six features they do not need is a system nobody opens twice.

4

You watch one real training round finish before we step back

The first live month runs with us alongside it. A real enrolment, a real assessment and a real certificate issued, before anybody calls the project finished.

Testimonials

Don't Take Our Word For It

Two ways a published minimum turns into the wrong purchase
Two situations with one thing in common. In both the software was perfectly capable and the sizing is what failed. If you are reading these and still choosing a first learning system at all, our managed Zoho Learn service is usually where that decision starts.
Ring binders of paper training records filling an office shelf.

How this plays out

Forty people were priced as though they were a hundred

Scenario one. A company of forty needs proper compliance training and lands on a platform whose smallest plan assumes a hundred users. The software fits perfectly well. The invoice is sized for a company they are not, and every renewal becomes an argument about a number nobody is able to move.
Colleagues working together at a shared table with laptops open.

When this comes up

The audience widened, and that turned out to be a second product

A second situation. Staff training goes in first and works well. Eighteen months later the same courses need to reach customers, and the new audience is a separate product with its own floor rather than a setting somebody can switch on. The training was ready. The licence was not.
600-1,200

Dollars a month, flat, whether thirty people use it or three thousand

Everything from the first requirement read to the monthly report sits inside that figure, and none of it moves with the number of people enrolled.
0

Dollars of software licence, and no minimum to reach first

Frappe Learning is open source, so the software itself costs nothing and there is no user count to clear before somebody is willing to sell to you.
4-8

Weeks before a real enrolment, assessment and certificate run end to end

Four to eight weeks for most teams, and longer where years of completion history need converting or the certification rules carry more exceptions than rules.

LearnUpon alternative and managed Frappe Learning FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a LearnUpon alternative?
Any system that can hold the training record and run the rules around it. That takes in the other platforms on this hub, meaning TalentLMS, Docebo, Litmos, 360Learning and Moodle, the spreadsheet most companies are still quietly using, and open source systems such as Frappe Learning. The question worth asking first is whether you clear their minimum and sit inside one of the three audiences they sell to.
How is Cascadia different from LearnUpon?
LearnUpon is a finished platform you subscribe to once you are large enough to qualify. Cascadia is a system somebody builds for you. We shape enrolment, assessments, certification expiry and reporting around the process you already run, host it on Frappe Cloud and support it afterwards. There is no user floor and no audience category you have to fit into.
What does LearnUpon actually cost?
They publish no figure for any of the three products. What they do publish is the minimum you must reach to buy each one, which is one hundred users for Employees, one hundred and fifty for Associations and three hundred for Customer Education. Cascadia is six hundred dollars a month for Standard and twelve hundred for Priority, written here, and it does not move with headcount.
Is LearnUpon cheaper than this?
Above a few hundred users it may well be, because their per user economics improve as the number climbs. Below their published floor the comparison does not really exist, since they will not sell to you at that size. That is the honest shape of it and we would rather say so than argue around it.
Does Frappe Learning come with any courses?
No, and it is the most important limit on this page. Frappe Learning delivers, tracks and certifies training and ships no course content at all. LearnUpon will sell you a catalogue through their Go1 partnership. We build the system, and your own experts write what goes into it.
Why not install Frappe Learning and run it ourselves?
You can, and nothing needs licensing. The install itself is a morning of work. The time goes into certification expiry, batch scheduling, enrolment logic and compliance reporting, which is where an experienced pair of hands earns its keep.
Should we buy this at all?
Often not. If you are training several hundred employees, you want an implementation consultant and support at any hour included, and your audience is one they serve, LearnUpon is a sound purchase and we will say so. The fit review exists to reach that answer honestly and it costs nothing.
We are under a hundred users. Is that really a problem for them?
By their own account, yes. Their published guidance says the platform is not a fit below that size, and they say it before you have spent a fortnight in discovery. It is not a soft target you negotiate around, and taking them at their word is the fastest thing you can do.
Do we have to migrate everything at once?
No, and a staged move is usually better. Current learner records and live certification status go first, because somebody needs those tomorrow morning. Historic completions, course material and assessments follow on whatever schedule the training calendar allows.
Does anything break while you take over?
No. Mandatory training carries on and anyone holding a valid certificate keeps it. We migrate into a copy and only cut over once the completion counts agree on both sides, with your existing platform running throughout.
What if we already run Frappe Learning and it was set up badly?
That happens often, and it is closer to a rebuild than a clean up. We go through the course structure, the batches, the assessment rules, the certification settings and whatever somebody customized, then tell you honestly which parts are worth keeping and which should be built again.
Do you own the system or the data?
You do. Frappe Learning is open source, the instance and the database belong to you, and so does every course, certificate and custom field we build. If you stopped paying us tomorrow, all of it carries on working.
What is included at each tier?
Standard covers implementation, configuration, migration, handover, customization, development, hosting on Frappe Cloud and continuing support. Priority adds two concurrent active requests, quicker turnaround and a quarterly review. Neither one counts users, courses or logins.
What happens if our audience changes from staff to customers?
Nothing changes commercially. The same instance serves employees, members, customers and external learners together. With LearnUpon those are three separate products carrying three separate minimums, which is the thing most people discover about eighteen months in.
What does the monthly report actually contain?
What changed that month, what we built or configured, what still looks fragile and the plan for it. Relevant upstream Frappe Learning release notes go in as well. It follows a rolling month from your start date.
What if I want to leave?
Thirty days notice. Because the instance and the database were always yours there is nothing to export and nothing to hand over, so what actually ends is our involvement and nothing else.
