A Semrush Alternative For Teams Who Have The Data And Not The Hours

Semrush is a very good piece of software and we are not one. It will find the broken redirect, name the term worth owning and rank the fix list, all inside an hour of you signing up. Then it waits. Everything after the list is a person opening the site, writing the page and asking somebody else for a link, and no plan tier includes that person. Management from $800 per month.
Where a licence stops and the work starts
Semrush sells five plan tiers and four add-ons, and the seat you assumed was included is the one that moves the price
Their pricing page lists five tiers. SEO at one hundred and thirty nine dollars a month, Starter at one hundred and ninety nine, Pro Plus at two hundred and ninety nine, Advanced at five hundred and forty nine, and Enterprise quoted on request. Paying annually takes the SEO plan down to one hundred and seventeen dollars and thirty three cents a month. Underneath the tiers sit the add-ons: additional users from forty five dollars a month, Lead Generation at ninety, and report credits at ten and twenty. The figure people quote is the first one on its own, and it is the price for exactly one person.

A second person on the account costs from forty five dollars a month, and a third costs the same again

Semrush prices its plans for one user. Every additional user starts at forty five dollars a month, which is the figure on their own add-on list. A marketing lead, a developer and a writer who all need to open the same audit turn a one hundred and thirty nine dollar subscription into two hundred and twenty nine. Our price does not move with the number of your people who look at the work, because none of them have to.

The SEO plan tracks five sites and five hundred keywords, and that ceiling arrives sooner than expected

One hundred and thirty nine buys five projects and five hundred keywords refreshed daily. That is comfortable for a single business and tight for anybody running a second brand, a client site, or a set of location pages. The next tier is one hundred and ninety nine and the one after that two hundred and ninety nine, so the plan you priced at signup is often not the plan you renew on. This is not a criticism of their packaging. It is a reason to work out the second year before setting any of it beside us.

We pay for tools in this category ourselves, so this is not a page about software being bad

There is no version of this work that happens without data behind it, and anybody claiming otherwise is guessing at your market. What we sell is the hours that come after the data, not a replacement for the data. If you read the rest of this page as an argument that Semrush is a poor product, you have read it wrong. It is an argument about which of the two things you are actually short of.
A licence and a team, priced against each other
Semrush hands you the list. The question is who works through it on the first Monday of the month.
The two columns below barely overlap, which makes this a clean comparison and a lopsided one on price. One is software you drive. The other is people who drive software. Setting a one hundred and thirty nine dollar subscription against a seven hundred and forty nine dollar service is not a fair fight on cost, and we are not going to present it as one.

Cascadia

One monthly fee covering the audit, the technical fixes made on your live site, keyword targets chosen against what you actually sell, pages written and published, links pursued and the bad ones declined, local search where it applies, and a written summary each month. Whatever tooling the work needs sits on our side of the invoice. The site, the content and the rankings stay in your name.

Without Cascadia

An excellent research platform for one seat, with the audit, the keyword data, the position tracking and the competitor view in one place for a fraction of our fee. What arrives is a prioritised list. Somebody on your side then opens the site, makes the change without breaking anything, writes the page, and goes and asks another publisher for a link. If that person exists, the licence is the better purchase and we say so further down.

Comparison

Cascadia vs Semrush
Every row below is about who performs an action rather than who holds better data. A cross means the subscription does not include a person doing that thing, which is a statement about what software is rather than a criticism of Semrush. Their platform will often flag that one of these needs doing well before we would have noticed it. All of it is covered by our managed WordPress SEO service.

Technical fixes made on your live site rather than listed in a report

Keyword targets chosen against your margin rather than search volume

One price regardless of how many of your people need to see the work

Pages written and published, not scored after somebody else writes them

Link acquisition pursued on your behalf every month

Thirty days notice with no annual prepayment to forfeit

Local search and map visibility handled inside the same fee

Redirect chains and schema errors repaired rather than counted again

A written monthly summary instead of a dashboard to interpret

One service in two sizes rather than a plan tier plus four add-ons

Where Semrush fits

If somebody on your team already owns search as part of their job, buy the licence and skip us. One hundred and thirty nine a month against seven hundred and forty nine is not a close contest, and a competent marketer with Semrush open will outperform an agency they have to supervise. The same holds if what you mainly want is research: competitor keyword sets, advertising history, backlink gaps, the topic tools. That is a data purchase and we are not a data vendor. We do not resell Semrush and earn nothing whichever way you go.

Where hiring us makes sense

We are for the case underneath that, where search matters to revenue and there is nobody whose Monday it belongs to.

Where Semrush is strong

Icon representing a large research database covering keywords, links and competitor history
The dataset is larger than anything we would build, and we are not pretending otherwise
Keyword databases across a long list of countries, historical position data, backlink profiles, advertising copy going back years, and a competitor view assembled out of all of it. Building any of that is a different business from ours. When this work needs that class of data it gets bought, and the invoice for it lands on our side rather than yours.
Icon representing self serve research answered instantly without a request queue
Self serve research whenever you want it, with no request queue in front of you
You open the tool and the answer is there. Nothing to request, nobody to wait on, no reporting cycle to fit around. Working with us means some questions arrive as a request rather than a query, and if you are the sort of person who likes to go and look at three in the afternoon, that is a real loss and worth weighing. Buy the licence for that alone if you want. It sits perfectly happily alongside this service.
Icon representing a free plan and a short trial used to test a purchase before committing
There is a free plan and a seven day trial, so you can settle this yourself before spending
The free tier gives you one project and ten reports a day, and the trial opens the paid features for a week. That is enough to establish whether the missing thing was information or effort. If a week with the tool clears your backlog, you had a tooling problem and you have now solved it for one hundred and thirty nine dollars. We would far rather you learned that in week one than in month four with us.
Icon representing published industry research and a widely recognised brand in the category
Their published research and their brand carry weight that ours does not
Semrush publishes studies, runs an academy, and sits in most conversations about this category as the default answer. We are a smaller firm in the Pacific Northwest with a shorter list of references to offer. If buying the recognised name matters inside your organisation, or if a procurement team needs to have heard of the supplier, that gap is real and it does not run in our favour.
All of that stands. The data is better than anything we would assemble, the tool answers instantly, the trial costs nothing, and the brand is stronger than ours. This page turns on one narrower question. After the list arrives, who opens the site and makes the change.

What you are actually buying from us

Icon representing audit findings applied directly to a live site rather than filed in a report
The change gets published, not recommended
Seven hundred and forty nine a month covers technical work carried out on your live site rather than described in a document. The redirect chain gets shortened, the schema gets corrected until it validates, the title tags get rewritten and pushed. Each one is confirmed clear on the following crawl. The measure of this work is what the site does afterwards, not the length of the audit.
Icon representing a flat monthly fee unaffected by how many people view the work
The seat count does not appear in the arithmetic
Seven hundred and forty nine covers technical fixes, keyword strategy, content, authority building, local search and monthly reporting. Growth at one thousand four hundred and ninety nine adds more content and more link acquisition each month, plus multiple locations where they apply. Neither figure moves because a fourth person wants to read the report, and there is no login for them to be charged for. Month to month, thirty days notice, no setup fee.
Icon representing a monthly agreement with no annual prepayment required to reach the rate
Nothing here is bought a year at a time to reach the sensible price
Thirty days notice from the first month onward, and the audit runs before any of it at no charge. Annual billing is how most tools in this category reach their headline rate, so the cheap comparison figure usually assumes twelve months paid up front. Ours is the monthly number and there is no second, better number waiting behind a longer commitment.
Icon representing tooling licences absorbed by the provider rather than billed to the client
The tooling sits on our invoice, not added to yours
Whatever this work needs in order to be done properly is bought on our side. There is no plan tier to choose, no add-on to authorise, no extra seat to approve, and no research credit that runs out in the third week of the month. You buy an outcome on the search channel and the licences behind it are our operating cost. That is most of the reason a service costs more than a subscription.
Semrush will do the finding better than we will, and it will do it a great deal faster. The case for us begins after the finding, when somebody has to spend the afternoon acting on it. The same reasoning runs through the rest of our managed marketing services.

Onboarding process

What the first ninety days look like, in four steps

Most of the work sits on our side. The audit is the one stage that will not compress, because what a site already ranks for is almost never what the people running it believe.

1

The site gets crawled before anything is touched

What the crawl finds, what Search Console has been reporting to nobody, which pages already earn impressions and which have never been seen at all. We also establish what tooling is already running and who holds those licences, because paying twice for the same dataset is common and easy to stop.

2

The technical faults get repaired and confirmed

Redirect chains shortened, canonicals pointed where they belong, schema corrected until it validates, titles and descriptions rewritten where they undersell the page. Each change is published to your live site and confirmed on the following crawl rather than handed over as a task list. Where a change carries real risk we stage it and tell you first.

3

The target list gets built against what you sell

Terms are chosen with your pricing and your margins in front of us rather than by volume alone. Two hundred searches from buyers beats four thousand from readers, and which is which depends on your business rather than on any tool. The reasoning is written down so you can disagree with it before we publish against it.

4

The publishing starts and the reporting does not lapse

Pages get written and shipped, links get pursued, and a short summary arrives each month covering what went out, what moved, what did not, and what happens next about the part that did not. Position and clicks sit side by side, because a page can climb ten places and still send nobody. Where a decision is needed from your side, we come and ask for it.

Testimonials

Don't Take Our Word For It

Two ways the tooling was fine and the ranking still did not move
Two shapes with one thing in common. In both, the software was working correctly and telling the truth. What was missing was somebody with the access and the afternoon to act on it, and in the second case somebody to write the replacement, which is what our managed content service is for.
A laptop showing a dashboard that nobody has acted on

How this plays out

The audit score climbed every month and the traffic did not

A team ran a paid tool properly, worked the priority list, and cleared warning after warning. Site health went from the sixties into the low nineties across two quarters. Sessions from search did not move, because the terms being optimised for had been picked years earlier and nobody had questioned them since. The tool was measuring hygiene faithfully and reporting it accurately. Nothing inside it was ever going to say that the target list itself was the problem.
A stack of finished work waiting with no order anybody could follow

When this comes up

The fix list was correct and nobody had the access to apply it

Every month a prioritised export arrived, and every month it went to a marketer who could not edit templates and a developer whose sprint was already full. Eleven months later the same redirect chain sat at the top of the same list. Nobody was negligent and the software was blameless. The list simply described work that nobody in the arrangement was actually able to carry out, and no upgrade would have changed that.

Dollars a month for the whole search channel

Technical fixes, keyword strategy, content, authority building, local search and a monthly report. Growth adds more content and more link acquisition each month, at one thousand four hundred and ninety nine.
0

Setup fee, and no charge per extra seat

No onboarding charge, no minimum term, and no additional user fee. Month to month on thirty days notice, in a category where the headline rate usually assumes a year paid up front.
3 to 6

Months before movement on terms you already sit near

Three to six months for terms where you already sit close, and considerably longer for anything competitive. Anybody quoting weeks is counting a position you already held.

Semrush alternative and managed SEO FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Semrush alternative?
Anything else that gets you both the information and the action. That covers other research platforms such as Ahrefs, narrower tools like Surfer for drafting and Screaming Frog for crawling, the free data already sitting in Search Console, and managed services such as this one where the work itself lives outside your company. Semrush is the broad platform in that list. We are in the last group, which is a different kind of purchase rather than a cheaper version of the same one.
How is Cascadia different from Semrush?
Semrush is software you operate and we are people who operate software. Their subscription produces findings and ours produces published changes. Their price is per seat and ours is per company. Their tiers cap projects and keywords, while ours caps how much content and link work happens each month. The overlap is smaller than on most comparisons we publish, which is why the answer to which is better depends entirely on whether you already have somebody to do the work.
How does your price compare to theirs?
One hundred and thirty nine dollars a month on their SEO plan against seven hundred and forty nine on ours, and the gap is wider still at their lower tiers. We are more than five times the price. The comparison is not really licence against licence though. It is a licence against a licence plus the hours of whoever would use it, and once those hours are costed at anything realistic the two figures move a good deal closer together.
Is Semrush cheaper than this?
Yes, substantially, at every tier they sell. There is no arithmetic that makes a software subscription cost more than a staffed service, and dressing that up would be insulting. What the subscription does not include is the person who acts on it, and the only reason to read past the price is to work out whether you already employ one.
Why would anyone pay five times as much?
Because the licence is not the expensive part of SEO. The expensive part is a competent person spending a recurring share of every month on it, and that costs a great deal more than seven hundred and forty nine whether you employ them or hire them. If that person is already on your payroll, buying our service on top of their salary is waste, and we would rather say so than take the order.
What is a redirect chain and why does it keep coming up?
A redirect chain is one URL sending a visitor to a second, which sends them on to a third, usually left behind by a migration nobody finished. Each hop costs a little authority and a little speed, and crawlers give up after a handful of them. Every tool in this category flags them. Repairing them means editing redirect rules on the live site, which is a job for whoever holds the admin login rather than for the tool that found it.
Should we buy this at all?
Often not, and month one is a better time to find that out than month six. If somebody in house enjoys this work and has the hours for it, buy a licence and keep the difference, which runs to well over seven thousand dollars a year. This starts to make sense when search matters to revenue, the fix list has been rolling over untouched for a while, and nobody wants to own it.
Do we have to cancel our Semrush subscription?
No, and there is often no reason to. Keep it if your team actually uses it, and we will work inside your account so the history stays with you rather than starting a parallel one. If nobody has opened it in three months, cancel it and stop paying for a login that reports to nobody. We do not require any particular tool on your side and we do not resell one.
Does anything break while you take over?
No. The site stays up and nothing gets rebuilt. Technical changes are made one at a time on the live site and confirmed afterwards, and anything carrying real risk is staged and discussed before it goes anywhere. The visible difference in the first month is usually that a handful of long standing errors disappear and the audit finally stops repeating itself.
What if we were penalised or hit by an update?
Then recovery work comes before growth work and the timeline stretches. We establish whether it was a manual action, an algorithmic update, or a change that merely looks like one, then repair the cause and write down what we found. Some of this resolves within weeks and some waits for the next core update, and anybody promising you a date is guessing.
Do you host the site or own the content?
No. The site stays on your hosting under your domain, and every page we write belongs to you the moment it publishes. That is deliberate rather than incidental. It means leaving costs you nothing beyond the work stopping, and it is the difference between building an asset and renting visibility from a supplier.
What is included at each tier?
Managed WordPress SEO at seven hundred and forty nine covers technical fixes, keyword strategy, content, authority building, local search and monthly reporting. Growth at one thousand four hundred and ninety nine increases the content and link volume each month and covers multiple locations where they exist. Most single location businesses should start on the first one, and we will say so rather than selling up.
Do you guarantee rankings?
No, and treat anybody who does with suspicion. Nobody outside Google decides what ranks, so a ranking guarantee is either hedged into meaninglessness or attached to terms so obscure that winning them proves nothing at all. What we commit to is the work being done, published and reported, with the months where a number moved the wrong way shown next to the months where it did not.
What does the monthly report actually contain?
What was published, what changed technically, which positions moved and in which direction, what was earned in links, and what happens next about whatever did not work. Position and clicks sit next to each other, because rising ten places on a term nobody searches is not progress. It is written to be read in a few minutes by somebody with no interest in what a canonical tag is. There is no portal, which some people prefer and some do not.
How long before we see a difference?
Technical repairs can show within weeks, because a page that was not being indexed properly starts being indexed properly. Rankings on competitive terms are the slow half. Three to six months before the direction is clear, and longer where the results above you are entrenched. Anybody promising faster is either counting positions you already held or targeting terms with no demand behind them.
What if I want to leave?
Thirty days notice ends it and nothing is left stranded. The site, the pages and the rankings were always yours, so there is no account to migrate and nothing to hand back. One thing worth stating plainly: positions decay once the work stops, because competitors keep publishing. That is the nature of the channel rather than a lock in, and we would rather you knew it before signing than after leaving.
