Vonage alternative

Looking For A Vonage Alternative? We Run It Instead

Two-way conversation that stays inside Zoho. Replies land on the record, and nothing about your customers leaves your own Zoho account: no vendor dashboard, no copy of your data, no phone home. Send one message or send to a whole list, and every reply lands back on the record in SMS History.

What makes it different

Nothing phones home
Two way, not one way
Your Twilio, your rates
Personalized at any volume
Every number, not just one
History follows the record

The short version

The short case for Cascadia over Vonage

Most texting tools for Zoho Desk work the same way. You install a connector, and your contact and account records start flowing out to somebody else’s platform so their application can send the message and hold the thread.

What changes once we run it

The exchange an escalation later gets judged on now lives outside your help desk. This extension takes the opposite approach and never sends anything back to us.

Two way, not one way

Your help desk already holds conversations, just not over text. This one captures the reply.

Your Twilio, your rates

You connect your own Twilio account, so message costs are billed to you at Twilio prices with nobody in the middle taking a cut.

Personalized at any volume

Dynamic text pulls values out of the record as each message is sent.

Every number, not just one

Records rarely hold a single phone number. The extension detects every phone field on a contact or account, including custom ones, and lets you choose which to text.

Who this comparison is for

Support teams working urgent tickets

A text gets read faster than an email and people actually answer it.

Support leads handling outages and escalations

When something is down, everybody affected needs telling at once, and templates plus dynamic fields mean the message writes itself from each record. Schedule it ahead of a maintenance window.

Teams working under strict data rules

Support desks hold the details a customer would least like copied elsewhere. Account numbers and whatever they typed into the ticket while they were frustrated.

How the Zoho Desk SMS integration works

Four steps, and none of them involve standing anything up. You install the extension from the Zoho Marketplace, connect your Twilio credentials, and start texting from a record.

  1. 1

    We assess your current setup

First we look at how things run today: what you already pay for, what is configured where, and which parts are actually causing you trouble.

  2. 2

    Install from the Zoho Marketplace

There is a ten day free trial, so you can put it through real work before deciding. Nothing is hosted anywhere else, no server needs provisioning, and the SMS History module appears in Zoho Desk ready to use.

  3. 3

    Connect your own Twilio account

Different teams or brands can send from different numbers, so replies reach whoever should be handling them.

  4. 4

Text a record and watch the reply land

Open a contact or account, pick a number, and send. Use a saved template if it is a message you send often, and dynamic fields fill in the details from the record.

The difference that matters

No second account, no second system

Both options give you two-way texting on your Zoho Desk records, and on paper the feature lists look similar. The difference is architectural. Vonage is a communications platform you sign up for, and every message runs through your Vonage account. Ours is built in Deluge and runs inside your own Zoho account against your own Twilio credentials, so there is no Vonage account to hold, no vendor dashboard to log into, and no copy of your customer data anywhere but Zoho.

If your objection to texting from Zoho Desk has ever been “who else ends up holding this data”, that is the question this answers.

How Vonage works

What Vonage does, in their own words

Vonage, formerly Nexmo, is a cloud communications platform with SMS, voice and verification APIs. For a Zoho comparison, the relevant question is what sits between the two.

A Zoho Desk extension existsZoho publishes a free Vonage extension for Zoho Desk that lets agents send SMS to customers from inside Zoho Desk, connected to a Vonage account.
It runs on a Vonage accountRequests are authenticated with a Vonage API key and secret from the Vonage dashboard, so a Vonage account sits alongside your Zoho account.
Someone has to build the linkOutside that extension, connecting Vonage to Zoho means an automation platform or custom development against the API.
Messages are triggered, not threadedTypical API setups send on a record event, so replies do not land on the record unless something is built to write them back.
Voice as well as SMSThe platform covers programmable voice and user verification alongside messaging.
Built for developersVonage positions its Communications APIs for developers building messaging, voice and verification into their own apps.

Vonage alternative questions

Straight answers about switching, pricing, and what moves with you.
Why would I switch from Vonage to Cascadia?
One reason is that texting runs both ways. Your help desk already holds conversations, just not over text. This one captures the reply.
No. The extension is built in Deluge and runs inside your own Zoho account, using your own Twilio credentials. Message content stays in your SMS History module, and we have no access to it.
Yes. You connect your own Twilio account and use your own numbers, so carrier charges are billed to you directly at Twilio rates rather than resold through us with a margin on top. It also means your message records sit in your Twilio console under your name, and you can change providers or numbers whenever you want.
Contacts and accounts. You text the people on the record rather than a ticket, which means the conversation belongs to the customer relationship rather than to one case. That keeps the thread readable as tickets open and close over the life of the account.
Yes. Select the records you want and compose the message once. Everybody selected receives it, and each send is logged against that individual record rather than into one shared pile. That is the fastest way to tell every affected customer about an outage or a maintenance window without opening a ticket each time.
In the SMS History module, as a new entry linked to the record that replied. Nobody has to copy anything across or watch a separate inbox. Because history is attached to the record itself, any agent who picks up that account later can read the full exchange without asking around for context.
No. The extension has no phone home capability. It runs inside your Zoho environment and does not transmit your records, phone numbers, or message content to us. We hold no copy of any of it, and there is no vendor side dashboard collecting data in the background. This is the main structural difference between this extension and most alternatives.
Entirely on the Zoho platform, written in Deluge. There is no embedded third party interface, no external web application, and no separate service your data has to travel through. Everything happens inside your own Zoho Desk deployment, which keeps the data boundary simple to explain to a security reviewer or an auditor.
Yes. Dynamic text pulls values straight out of Zoho Desk and drops them into the message body when it is sent. Customer name, reference number, or any other field on the record can be used. That means an update going out to two hundred customers still reads as though it was written for each one individually.
Yes. Templates let agents save the messages they send most often and pick one instead of typing it again. Templates work alongside dynamic fields, so a saved message still fills in each recipient’s own details at send time. It removes most of the retyping from routine replies like acknowledgments and status updates.
The extension detects every phone field on the record rather than assuming a single default. If a contact has ten numbers on file, all of them are available and you choose which ones to text. That matters for records where the mobile number sits in a custom field rather than the standard one.
Yes. Compose the message now and set the date and time it should go out. The send happens at the moment you chose rather than the moment the agent was at their desk, which is useful for time zones, business hours, and anything that needs to land before a planned maintenance window.
