Vonage alternative

What You Get Instead Of Running Vonage Yourself

Two-way conversation that stays inside Zoho. Replies land on the record, and nothing about your customers leaves your own Zoho account: no vendor dashboard, no copy of your data, no phone home. Send one message or send to a whole list, and every reply lands back on the record in SMS History.

What makes it different

Nothing phones home
Two way, not one way
Your Twilio, your rates
Personalized at any volume
Every number, not just one
History follows the record

The short version

Cascadia, compared with Vonage

The usual way to add texting is to hand a connector your subscriber list so an outside platform can do the sending, which puts a live copy of who pays you what on servers you do not administer.

What our team takes on

The extension does its work inside Zoho Billing. The thread attaches to the subscriber rather than to one billing run, and no copy of it is held on our side, because nothing is ever sent to us.

Personalized at any volume

Dynamic text pulls values out of the record as each message is sent.

Every number, not just one

Records rarely hold a single phone number. The extension detects every phone field on a contact or account, including custom ones, and lets you choose which to text.

History follows the record

A subscription outlives any single charge against it. Because the thread attaches to the subscriber rather than to one billing run, a renewal reminder from March sits beside the failed card notice from June.

Nothing phones home

We hold no copy and run no dashboard on our side. There is nothing for us to lose in a breach and nothing for you to ask us to delete, because we were never holding it.

Who this comparison is for

Companies audited on how payment data is handled

Anything touching a paying subscriber eventually attracts a questionnaire. Which vendor sees the phone number, and where the message text ends up.

Admins already running Zoho Billing in production

Permissions come from Zoho Billing, which is where anyone was going to argue about them anyway.

Recovering failed subscription payments

A declined card is usually a dead card rather than a decision to leave. An email asking someone to update it competes with everything else in the inbox, and a text does not.

How the Zoho Billing SMS integration works

Four steps, and none of them involve standing anything up. You install the extension from the Zoho Marketplace, connect your Twilio credentials, and start texting from a record.

  1. 1

    We assess your current setup

First we look at how things run today: what you already pay for, what is configured where, and which parts are actually causing you trouble.

  2. 2

    Install from the Zoho Marketplace

There is a ten day free trial, so you can put it through real work before deciding.

  3. 3

    Connect your own Twilio account

Paste your Twilio credentials into the setup screen and pick the numbers you want to send from.

  4. 4

Text a record and watch the reply land

Open a contact or account, pick a number, and send. Use a saved template if it is a message you send often, and dynamic fields fill in the details from the record.

The difference that matters

No second account, no second system

Both options give you two-way texting on your Zoho Billing records, and on paper the feature lists look similar. The difference is architectural. Vonage is a communications platform you sign up for, and every message runs through your Vonage account. Ours is built in Deluge and runs inside your own Zoho account against your own Twilio credentials, so there is no Vonage account to hold, no vendor dashboard to log into, and no copy of your customer data anywhere but Zoho.

If your objection to texting from Zoho Billing has ever been “who else ends up holding this data”, that is the question this answers.

How Vonage works

What Vonage does, in their own words

Vonage, formerly Nexmo, is a cloud communications platform with SMS, voice and verification APIs. For a Zoho comparison, the relevant question is what sits between the two.

It connects through Zoho FlowThe documented pairing for Zoho Billing is Zoho Flow, which lists Vonage SMS as an app it can connect to Zoho Billing.
It runs on a Vonage accountRequests are authenticated with a Vonage API key and secret from the Vonage dashboard, so a Vonage account sits alongside your Zoho account.
Someone has to build the linkEach flow is built and maintained by your team, and anything Zoho Flow does not cover means custom development against the API.
Messages are sent, not threadedZoho Flow lists send actions for Vonage SMS and no triggers, so replies do not land on the Zoho Billing record unless something is built to write them back.
Voice as well as SMSThe platform covers programmable voice and user verification alongside messaging.
Built for developersVonage positions its Communications APIs for developers building messaging, voice and verification into their own apps.

What does Cascadia do that Vonage leaves to me?
We personalize every message from the record, at any volume. Dynamic text pulls values out of the record as each message is sent. Names, due dates, amounts, or anything else on the contact or account populates automatically, so a message going to three hundred people still reads like it was written for one of them.
No. The extension is built in Deluge and runs inside your own Zoho account, using your own Twilio credentials. Message content stays in your SMS History module, and we have no access to it.
Contacts and accounts. You text the people on the record rather than a document, which means the conversation belongs to the customer relationship rather than to one invoice or one renewal. That keeps the thread readable as documents come and go over the life of the account.
Yes. Select the records you want and compose the message once. Everybody selected receives it, and each send is logged against that individual record rather than into one shared pile. Bulk sending to a saved list or view is also supported, which is easier when the same group gets messaged on a regular basis.
In the SMS History module, as a new entry linked to the record that replied. You do not have to copy anything across or check a separate inbox. Because history is attached to the record itself, anyone who picks up that account later can read the full exchange without asking around for context.
No. The extension has no phone home capability. It runs inside your Zoho environment and does not transmit your records, phone numbers, or message content to us. We hold no copy of any of it, and there is no vendor side dashboard collecting data in the background. This is the main structural difference between this extension and most alternatives.
Entirely on the Zoho platform, written in Deluge. There is no embedded third party interface, no external web application, and no separate service your data has to travel through. Everything happens inside your own Zoho Billing deployment, which keeps the data boundary simple to explain to a security reviewer or an auditor.
Yes. Dynamic text pulls values straight out of Zoho Billing and drops them into the message body when it is sent. Customer name, amount, due date, or any other field on the record can be used. That means a message going out to two hundred accounts still reads as though it was written for each one individually.
Yes. Templates let you save the messages you send most often and pick one instead of typing it again. Templates work alongside dynamic fields, so a saved message still fills in each recipient’s own details at send time. It removes most of the retyping from routine work like payment reminders and renewal notices.
The extension detects every phone field on the record rather than assuming a single default. If a contact has ten numbers on file, all of them are available and you choose which ones to text. That matters for records where the mobile number sits in a custom field rather than the standard one.
Yes. Compose the message now and set the date and time it should go out. The send happens at the moment you chose rather than the moment you were at your desk, which is useful for time zones, business hours, and anything that needs to land on a particular day such as the week before a renewal.
